It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, so break out the cocoa, the coffee, and cookies! Grab those holiday theme books and bring your holiday spirit. Jennifer @ The Book Shelfery  and I are  hosting the Ho-Ho-Ho Read-A-Thon.  This is our third year hosting, and we are excited to get together with you.  Prepare to enter challenges, win prizes, meet new friends and Twitter chat with us. You can join for a day or sit by the fire and hang out every day. The more you participate the more entries you will earn for the Participant Giveaway. As always, we are looking for Challenge Eleves hosts. Please email, tweet or message Jennifer or myself. We’ve posted early so that you have plenty of time to find those holiday/winter reads and clear your schedules.

We love holiday themed reads from the covers to the warm & fuzzy tales on the inside. For this read-a-thon you must read holiday themed or winter setting reads. For bloggers, we have spoken to most of the main publishing houses and for ARCS of holiday books released in Sept/Oct, they are fine with you posting a review in November and December since that is when folks look to buy them. Below are the rules. Read them, grab the button and link up. For our non-blogger friends you can join too. Just link your Goodreads, Tumblr or Facebook account. Looking forward to spending time with you.

Read-a-thon Rules

  • Link-up (it is not necessary to link to goal post, just link to account/blog you will be using)

It might be a good idea to friend, like or follow Jennifer & I on whatever social media site you use so we can see your progress. Just mention Ho-Ho-Ho so we follow you back

I haven’t decided yet if I am going to read a bunch or not but I do have some, so I signed up. I am trying to get in the ho ho ho spirit but Christmas time is just a blah time for me as my mom died in December about 15 years ago and I still just don’t like Christmas but I am trying…lo here I am. 🙂

That is hard Stormi, but I am glad you are joining and any winter setting counts…so I am sure you could find cozy mysteries set in winter etc.

You know me and my lack of reading holiday books, so I’ll probably only read 1 or maybe 2. And I’m only going to read the one for sure because it’s the Bad Boy one. It’ll be released by then, I believe. Since I was deeeeenied. Weird.

I’ll have to take a look at my TBR to see what sort of holiday theme books I have (I know I have some ebooks). So hopefully I’ll be able to take part this year!

Hello Elizabeth, Host’s post a challenge that remains open the entire thon. Typically it is a fun challenge that is theme related. In this case holiday or winter. There have been crossword puzzles, book cover hunts, name that movie, famous first lines, puzzles, little writing assignments like write your favorite character into a holiday scene. Others have been share a food recipe, take a picture, make a collage etc. You get the idea. The challenge wound be open to all participants of the thon and you would need to offer an international prize. You can provided it or ask an author. I typically use Book Depository since shipping is free. Hope that answers your question. If you’d like to host we would love to have you 🙂

I would love to do a challenge, my only concern is making it legal. I recently learned that making someone do something for a giveaway means it’s no longer a “sweepstakes’ and thus illegal. You have to have at least one open entry where they don’t have to do anything. So I will do that and then have something they have to do for further entries. How about share a favorite cookie or dessert recipe for holiday times? I have an awesome one for molasses cookies with peppermint icing that people love. So count me in to host a challenge with $15.00 or the equivalent to Book Depository or Amazon, winner’s choice.

I am very familiar with the laws, but this isn’t a giveaway or an open contest but an event they joined. Since it is part of the Read-a-thon and only open to those who are participating. Since you are not asking them to follow etc you are fine. Jen and I will include follow options for hosts in our Participant Giveaway. If you are worried, or need clarification email me.

Hi Stephanie….so glad you are joining. Yes, we could use additional hosts. You would need to provide a challenge and international prize (nothing crazy) If still interested email me through contacts 🙂

  5. Sarah

I don’t think I have any winter themed books on my TBR list at the moment, can anyone recommend anything?

  6. Marsha

I am such a Christmas addict – and I’m not looking for recovery any time soon. 🙂 I’m looking forward to this one. I have already planned a Christmas Story daily review for my blog – and any excuse to add to my Christmas reading is wholeheartedly welcomed. Can’t wait to get started, and to discover Christmas stories that I don’t know about yet.

You guys. I am such a goof. Somehow I got it into my head that we were posting holiday reviews on these days, not reading holiday books. Unbelievable. So. Now I’m on board. I have several holiday books lined up to read on these days, and I’m making my plans. Can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

Hi 🙂 I’m not a blogger and want to use my twitter account to participate, but the button won’t fit into a tweet. Is that ok or do I need to find a social media site that can fit the button in order to participate and qualify for everything? Thank you. This looks like fun 🙂
