It’s zombie versus zombie as the Saberton Corporation declares war against the Zombie Mafia, kidnapping several of their party. It falls to Angel to lead the remnants of her gang halfway across the country to claw their way through corporate intrigue, zombie drugs, and undead trafficking to rescue her friends - and expose the traitor responsible for their abduction.

Now that I’ve listened to How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back by Diana Rowland, I am up-to-date with this amazing urban fantasy and left patiently waiting with fans for the next release. This installment has us traveling when the Saberton Corporation kidnaps several of the Zombie Mafia members. Once again, we see growth in our beloved zombie girl Angel as she takes on New York. Action packed and chock full of humor it was a fun listen.

I adore Angel Crawford! The girl is crazy, badass and quite clever. Each installment we see growth as her confidence grows.  New York terrified her, but she went out and attempted to save the day. Her inner commentary keeps me giggling and her one-line snark is the best.

I am carrying death in my butt

The Saberton thread offered some serious problems for our zombies while allowing Angela, and her zombie baby to grow closer. *snort* I still have questions regarding Saberton. Why is the corporation and particularly Nicole so intent on these particular zombies. Is something bigger funding this? I hope that with new developments we will begin to learn more. A thread has the zombie parasite behaving differently and it has me worried about what that means for Angel.

The interactions, friendships, and Angel’s on-again-off-again romance all added interest to How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back. Secondary characters are well developed and add to the tale. We have some really weird developments that are sure to make fans exclaim,  “What is this f@ckery?”

I heard a low growl and realized it was coming from my own throat. Fuck the fear and fuck the insecurities. I was worth fighting for. Every woman was worth fighting for. Didn’t matter if they were trash or addicts or rich or popular. Didn’t matter if they dressed like a homeless waif, or in tight skirts and heels, or in jeans and flannel. No one deserved to feel hopeless and worthless the way this goddamn asshole wanted me to feel and, I had no doubt, made other girls feel.

While I know, fans adore reading this series, for me, the audio version is the only way to go. This series and the spectacular voice of Allison McLemore is the only way I will get my zombie on. However you chose to get your zombie on, it is important to read/listen to this series in order. Each book builds on the next as does Angel’s growth.

If you are sitting here saying, “This all sounds good Kim, but I don’t do Zombie books.” I urge you to reconsider. Throw away your preconceptions about zombie books and try the first novel/audio. I dare you!

Okay, I still don’t get the appeal BUT I will try the first book, on audio. If I can’t find it on audio cheap, I’ll read but I will read it… kicking and screaming, but I’ll read it. I actually have her other series, Mark of the Demon, sitting on my shelf waiting for me. I will see what all hub bub is. Since you swear by the audio, I will try to use one of my free audibles for it – unless the library has it 😉

I so have Blessie to thank for putting me on to this series! She gifted me the first audiobook, (which I still have to finish) but I loved what I’ve heard so far! The narrator’s voice is absolutely hilarious, and to be honest, i wasn’t expecting to like the story as much as I was. Once I finish the first book, I’ll be able to move on to the others! So excited you’re enjoying the series 🙂

    Sold!
I spend a lot of time on the road right now, and audiobooks are saving my sanity! Humor and snark are what I need the most! Can’t wait to give this series a try!

I think I’m going to bite the bullet and try this series! You are all raving about it! I love the sound of Angel and I think I need more of her commentary, because those teasers made me giggle!

I am one of those people who don’t read zombies, I just watch TWD, BUT I know this is an exception. I just need to find the time to read book 1 at least. Also, carrying death where? must be heavy 😛

  6. Lorna

You are the reason I bought the first one on audio-I still haven’t had a chance to listen yet-but I really want to! I need to move it up the list I think 🙂

I soooo do zombie books, but I don’t do comedy zombie. So I’m at an impasse with myself. I do have the first one or two books at home, so I will get to at least those eventually. Although your excitement over them actually make me think I might like it because the series sounds like its more than just gags, its an actual well thought out plot.

My library doesn’t carry these in audio! I cannot even request them in that format. How DARE they! LOL Still, I do think I’ll find a way to try them on audio. I need to catch up with this series!

I really want to read this series! The first one has been on my wish list for such a long time. I just have a difficult time finally starting series. haha I will though!

I am working my way through series that have been on my wishlist. I pick one series and read a book a month from it. then start the next series when I finish. I have managed to get through four series on my back list.

Well, darn it, I’ve yet to read the first installment… So far I’ve been unable to find a review that was less than absolutely taken with the series. The humor & action & zombies combo seems irresistible 🙂 Great review!

I’ve been a bit iffy about this series. I like UF but I’m not the biggest zombie fan. Sometimes they work for me though so I don’t know… maybe one day I’ll try this series.

“I don’t do Zombie books Kim”, but I do have this series on my shelves, and someday, I will give it a try. I am glad you like this series so much.

    Oooh, I’ve been dared. LOL!

Actually, I have this series on the list to read. I’m not generally a zombie person, but I can see that these are a little something different.

    Love your excitement!

Yay, Kim! I’m glad that you’re all caught up on this series and all the books have been fantastic. Audio seems to be the way to go with it.
    Wonderful review!

I’m a big fan of this series on audio, too. I had several of the same questions you had about Saberton and Nicole. I wonder if those questions will be answered in the next book. I really enjoyed this book, but was very disappointed in the very end with Angel’s actions. It will be interesting to see what Ms. Rowland goes with that part of the storyline in the next book. Great review.

  17. Christy

I love this series so much. I’ve been trying SO HARD to spread them out more, but … it’s difficult to resist them. So very difficult. And yes, audio is THE way to go.
