The Others freed the  cassandra sangue  to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences. Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before—both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes. In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him. Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy. She knows each slice of her blade tempts death. But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict. For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

2015 FAV must-read urban Audiobook howlinggood

Vision in Silver is the third book in Anne Bishop’s Other series. I love this series so hard it may be classified as extreme fangirling. I own the series is every format. Generally, I listen to the audio version first and then read it. I have listened to the first two books twice and read them each once. This is unprecedented as I am generally one who rarely does re-reads outside of a few classics. If you have not read/listened to this series, you are missing out. This is a combined review, as I read the arc and listened to the audio arc.

*spoiler free*

Five Caffeinated reasons to hug, read, and caress Vision in Sliver

  • The world Anne Bishop has created known, as Thasia is breathtakingly beautiful with unique shifter creatures and a society that continues to blow my mind. This series is in a league of its own. In Vision in Silver, we learn more about how the world works from land leasing to the terra indigene who lives in the wilds.
  • There are quite a few characters from terra indigene to humans and gods above and below Bishop gives them each depth and unique personalities. Since my experience has always been audio first, I wondered if my ability to keep track of who was who had something to do with Alexandra Harris, the brilliant narrator. *shakes head* While she adds depth that I love it is Bishop who clearly defines them. She makes me care about them all from the little girl who needs a wolf protector to the Crows and their obsession with all things shiny.
  • Meg Corbyn and Simon Wolfgard are the main characters and their interaction and growing friendship/relationship warms my heart and makes me giggle as it continues to progress. Simon is the leader of the Lakeside Courtyard and until Meg came along he had very little understanding of humans. This has caused some hilarious moments as Meg and Simon learn about each other. I love them together and while it has not progressed to a romance (yet), their bond is fascinating to watch.
  • Vision in Silver has a suspenseful plot with multiple threads that weave together. The released Cassandra sangue are having trouble adapting to freedom and Meg plays a role in helping them. Food shortages and the Humans First and Last movement are stirring up trouble. An unexpected young visitor stirs things up, and  we sea e change from Simon concerning “some humans.” Events and his action change things in the courtyard and beyond.
  • Anne Bishop has created a world that is truly brilliant. Her writing style, character perception and ability to create an engaging tale held me spellbound. Every book in this series has been as strong as its predecessor and each increased my love of the series. I consumed Vision in Silver in a single day and cried when I closed the book for the simple fact that I have to wait another year. Bishop ended the tale wrapping up the current threads and having us excited to return.

If you love unique characters and original, well-crafted worlds than explore the Others series. I recommend reading them in order. My reviews of the previous novels are listed above in the book info section of this post. Vision in Silver was brilliant and the wait for the next installment will be brutal.

Audio Review

Listening to Alexandra Harris narrate the Other series has been an absolute joy. While Vision in Silver comes in at around 16 hours I was saddened when it was over. On the upside, my home sparkled as I used every excuse possible to keep listening. While I have read all of the books, listening is my preferred method for this series. I love hearing the characters voices and Harris does such a great job with pacing and tone. For me she elevates the story bringing the world to life. I have no doubt I will listen to this again.

Buy it, Own it, Hug it, Love it peeps!!!! If you don’t enjoy it I will eat crow. Seriously.

I randomly got a copy of this in the mail from the publisher but I haven’t read the earlier books in the series. Would I be really out of the loop if I started with this one and went back and read 1 and 2 later?

    • kimbacaffeinate

As badly as I want you to start this series since it is one of my absolute favorites I cannot recommend reading out of order. I think aspects and terminology would make you feel like a fish out of water.

  2. Michelle

*sigh* This is one series I have been wanting to read and I am not sure why I have not started it yet 🙁 I skimmed the review but I didn’t want to get spoilers for the other books 🙂 I will add this and the other books to my wish list on audible!

  3. Jon

I really need to read this series! Everyone seems to have read it and geeked out about it, except me 🙁 It totally seems like my things so there’s no reason for me not to read it.

  5. Olivia

Lately I have only heard amazing things about this book! I hadn’t heard of the series until a week ago, but now I am definitely adding it to my TBR! So glad you were able to love it so much. Gah, this sounds wonderful and right up my street ^.^

  6. Lauren

Ahhh you have me so excited to read this! I love reading books like this on audio because like you, it always makes me clean my house from top to bottom to have an excuse to keep listening. 🙂 Lovely reviews!

  7. Sarah

You will be happy to know I picked up Written in Red from the library the other day!! 😀 (If I don’t like it… I blame you ;))

  8. Candace

I’ve listened to these on audio so I plan to continue to do so. I can’t wait to listen to this and see where things go!

I think Anne is signing here tonight but it’s my daughters birthday and I don’t see how I could possibly make it. But oh, I do want to go! And it’s with Patricia Briggs! It’s killing me!

    • kimbacaffeinate

OMG..I would be there jumping up and down and squee-ing like a Beatles fan. I so want signed copies. Gads..that is hard because it’s her birthday, too bad she isn’t older and a fan too 🙁

    • kimbacaffeinate

Wahoo! I am assuming you mean Written in Red. I am dancing Michelle. Christy finally bought it and she is loving it too 🙂

  9. Lexxie

How come I haven’t started this series before? It sounds outstanding, both when it comes to world-building and character development. I guess it’s time for me to get on the band-wagon of The Others, eh? Your review made me do it 😉
I hope you’re having a fantastic week, Kim!

    • kimbacaffeinate

YES…enjoy! I cannot wait to hear your thoughts.

  10. Christy

I’m REALLY enjoying Written in Red. I kind of regret reading right now because I have to keep stopping – too much going on and interruptions. I wish I could just get into it and enjoy it from beginning to finish.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh yeah..these are a time sucker..you literally don’t want to do anything else but read or listen. I give my peeps advanced notice when I begin. I tell them I am not really here..you may see me, but fend for yourselves or face my wrath. .I put my headphones on, give up sleep and just listen.

  11. Alreem

wow I heard many good things about this series, I already add it to my TBR, but not sure should I listen to it as Audiobook or reading the actual books will be better 🙂 Lovely Review

  12. braine

  13. Faye

KIIMBERLYYYYYYYYYY WE REVIEWED THE SAME BOOK ON THE SAME DAY ASDFGHJKL; haha! Like you, I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE this book to the high heavens above. It’s seriously so beautiful and exciting all in one. The world-building here is the one that actually caught my attention the most! Remember when they were hinting at the Terra Indigene in the wild country, the beings that were too old and too powerful to even fathom??? That bit GAVE ME CHILLS.

    • kimbacaffeinate

SQUEEE!!!! *hugs you and whirls you around* Right..the more we learn the more I need to know. Gads the wait is going to be awful.

  14. Mary

OMG. YES. I’ve reread the first two a couple of times already, too. AND because I got the book so early, I just *had* to reread it before writing my review. It’s just so effortlessly written that I fall right into that world. *happy sigh*

    • kimbacaffeinate

Squee…yes Mary that is how I feel. I sometimes just turn on the audios at random chapters and listen for the sheer pleasure of it. My hubby asked me if he should be jealous of this Bishop person :snort:

  15. Amir

I know your review is most probably spoiler free but I really want to go in blind so I just checked your rating and I’m very happy and excited to listen to the audiobook now. I’ve been seeing rave reviews everywhere! I got the audiobook this morning but I didn’t get the chance to listen to it today but tomorrow! Simon and Meg, here I come!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I know exactly what you mean Amir..it is that good. I didn’t even read the synopsis.

  16. Kathryn

Your total love of this series has persuaded me to buy the first one at Audible. I am a little nervous when I begin listening that I won’t be able to follow the whole world building but I’ll hopefully get hold of it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Don’t be that intro reads like a history book..and then it slips into an actual story. I remember getting nervous too. OMG..text, tweet or message me any time you want to chat about it

  17. Michele at A Belle's Tales

Thank you for the spoiler-free review, Kimba! I’ve been collecting this series in both print and e-version because I know I’m going to adore them, and then we can fangirl together! It just has all the elements that make me fall in love with a series. 😀

  18. Angela Adams

Anne Bishop comes up with some awesome titles. I thought “Written in Red” was cool, too! Thanks for the post.

    • kimbacaffeinate

She does. I would love to have coffee with her 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Hehe..I wanted to just say Read it. That is all.

  19. ShootingStarsMag

AH, I need these books. Written in Red has been on my wish list since it was coming out. I’m so happy to hear all three books are fantastic.

    • kimbacaffeinate

The store is just around the corner,.now go…shoo.*evil grins*

  20. MIchelle

Ok, enough now. I just commented on two other blogs saying how this book popped up out of nowhere for me and I can’t believe that I haven’t even heard of it before today. And now you LOVE it too?? I need to get this book.

    Great review Kimba 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

:snort: Michelle this is the type of series where you want to tie your friends up and force them to read it..just so you can talk about with them

  21. Lindsay

It’s lovely to find something that you enjoy so much you read it in different formats, I can feel your enthusiasm for this series!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah, it gives me a book high no matter how often I pick it up.

  22. Sophia Rose

I love it when I just can’t get enough of a series. I have one that I even bought the graphic novels when I’m normally not a graphic novel fan. I have book one and hope to start on this series this year.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am excited you own book one..yeah I love this series hard and sometimes just put the audio on for background noise since I adore it so much.

  23. Bookworm Brandee

LOL I’m laughing because after reading Carmel’s review yesterday, and admitting I hadn’t read this series, Carmel basically told me she’d be hunting me down if I didn’t read it soon. That you love it equally as much, if not more, assures me that I’m missing out on greatness. I *will* be using some of my book buying budget for Written in Red this month. 🙂 I’m so, so happy that this installment was such a pleasure for you. I’m eager to immerse myself in this fantastic world with its unique creatures and characters. Wonderful review!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Bwahaha..this series does make one want to tie folks up and make them read it 🙂

  24. Jenny

I can’t believe I haven’t read this series yet Kim! All my favorite bloggers rave about it, so I really need to make time for it in the coming weeks. My mother in law is a big fan as well, so I have little doubt this series is going to work for me in a big way. Super excited to meet Meg and Simon!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Your Mom is so cool I want to hug her and you…have you not been listening to me? LOL I will forgive you when you read it 🙂

  25. Ramona

Whoa, I don’t think I’ve ever heard you waxing quite so lyrical about a book 🙂 I have to say, after reading your first paragraph, I skimmed the review because, well, I obviously have to try this one out for myself. Which I will. So thanks for that :p

    • kimbacaffeinate

There are no spoilers, as I would hate to ruin one blasted moment of this awesome series, but understand. This series and Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy are among my favorites and just so brilliant and original.

  26. Lupdilup

Yes! yes! A totally wining entry. I loved Anne Bishop before and my love continues to grow with this installment. You’re so right! The waiting is going to be brutal.

  27. kindlemom1

Yay! I am so excited that you loved this Kim. I really liked the first book. It was so different from what I was expecting. Not a favorite yet but I have a feeling it will get there. 😉

  28. Nick

    *Sigh*
Yet another series I need to read this summer. I love the sound of the world-building and the wonderful characters.
I WILL get to it. Anyways, I’m so happy this series continues to remain strong for you, Kim! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Lords above and below Nick..yes you needs to read this series

  29. Melliane

I agree with you it’s so original and so inteteresting. It’s rare to have such a world. I’m completely under the charm of the book! I really really love the whole series and I’m glad to see it’s the same for you. But now complicated to wait for more lol. WOnderful review my friend.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It is unique, and it just stands by itself in the genre. Yes, we shall have to wait and suffer together..hopefully we will find some worthy reads in-between 🙂
