From New York Times bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the third romance in the Love Under the Big Sky series, featuring a veteran struggling with PTSD and the one woman who can help him recover—and learn to love again. Jillian thought she was a city girl through and through; the fast cars, high fashion, and glamour—she loves it all. But when her ex tells her he’s having a baby with his new wife (after Jillian struggled for years to get pregnant), she hightails it back to Montana to cry on the shoulder of her best friend, Cara. But in truth, Jillian would rather be comforted by someone else…specifically Zach, Cara’s brother-in-law. Zach is a veteran of the Iraq War who came back to the family ranch to raise his preteen son after the boy’s mother took off. He’s struggling to re-establish a relationship with his son, and warding off the demons of PTSD, which still haunt him. The last thing he needs is bold, brassy Jillian…but why can’t he keep his hands off her?

Falling for Jillian by Kristen Proby is the third book in her Love Under the Big Sky series.  I am happy to report that this heated contemporary works as a standalone. Falling for Jillian set in breathtakingly beautiful Montana had so many elements I enjoy; military men, small-town charm, and a second chance romance.

Coffee dates with Falling for Jillian

Kristen Proby is a new to me author and I decided to venture into this contemporary on audio. It was quite the experience with its dual pov’s and heated romance.

First date: Jillian has decided to return home to Montana. She is recovering from a failed marriage and the realization that she will never be a mother.  However, she is happy to be back among friends and closer to her brother. I quickly learn that Jillian had a one-night stand with Zach, her best friend’s brother-in-law. He is now home in Montana raising his pre-teen son after a disastrous marriage and military tour. Right away, I am curious about these two. Jillian is sweet, and while she has baggage, she is confident and knows what she wants. I am not quite sure of Zach, the man may have issues but I am not quite ready to snuggle up with him yet. We shall see.

Second date: Oh, my…first detailed sex scene on audio folks. It was hot and more detailed than I expected. If you could have seen me, pulling out the earbuds like those suckers were on fire. I then looked around as if others could hear what I was hearing. I was probably blushing like an adolescent. :snort: I have no problem with heat and in fact love it from time to time, but looking at the cover, I didn’t quite expect this amount of detail. Whoa, baby! It was yummy but oooh my virgin ears! I am enjoying getting to know this couple and their circle of friends and family. While it is not necessary to have read the previous books, I am finding I want to know more about the other couples. After taking a deep breath, giggling a little and listening to that first sex scene the next one was better for me. Proby writes delicious, believable and hot sex scenes. While it just took some adjustment to having, it read to me I enjoyed these moments. I am in love with Seth, Zach’s son and his adorable dog. The interaction between the characters has endeared me to them and I am hoping for happily ever after.

Third date: Uh-oh there has been a little hiccup and boy howdy has Zach mess up, but then so does Jillian and I am about ready to slap them both in the back of the head. While I get they have baggage and understand Zach’s initial reaction this is a prime example of why when faced with shocking news you take a deep breath and process, before you open your mouth. The dual perspectives allowed us to understand the characters even if we did not always agree with their behavior. This last date was filled with angst and some very sweet moments. The climax had me holding my breath and smiling. Despite the turbulence, the story was nicely balanced with family moments, friends and encounters with the past. I ended up pulling out my ear-buds feeling warm and fuzzy. This was a quick audio date at just under seven hours.

Fans of military men, Montana, family and second chance romance who don’t mind a little heat will find  Falling for Jillian to be a heart-warming ride.

Ha! A sexy listen..lol I have friends that won’t do any on audio..lol It goes to show you how and audiobook in many ways can make the experience more real. I have this one on my library already, it’s been there for along time, I don’t know why I haven’t listened yet, I bought it b/c I’m a big fan of the narrators, but I’ve never been crazy about that cover. I should listen to it soon 🙂

I have done the pull out the ear bud thing before to see if anyone else can hear…hehe. That is so funny. I have also looked up from a book just to make sure no one can see what I am reading. Sounds kind of fantastic. Although, I don’t “love” descriptive sexual scenes. I prefer to leave them to my imagination ;). Makes me feel less guilty reading it…hahaha. I know, I am a weirdo but I am okay with that 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I like everything from sweet kisses to oh-la-la..but I read such a mix of genres and books that it never gets old..it was just my first time listening..lol

  3. Alreem

sound like an OK book but I actually like the cover more than the storyline 😀

  4. Bookworm Brandee

Ooh, great review! I’ve been curious about this series since I’ve read a few from Proby’s Seattle series. I like Montana as a setting. 🙂 I giggled over your blushing during the sex scene. I’m quite certain I do that every time I read one. I can’t really imagine what having one read to me would be like. But I’m pretty sure that with the audio book I’ve started, I’m going to find out. 🙂 But back to Zach and Jillian…your dates with them gave me enough that I’ll give the series a shot!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well on audio..nope it was so not fade to black..LOL

I feel so bad because I have Kristen Proby’s first series on my Kindle and they’ve grown dusty and are hidden behind so many other books. Her books have been recommended to me so many times. I’m pretty sure I could heat my house and save on the utility bill with the blushing I would be doing.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am making a conscious effort to try authors that have been on my wishlist for ages..dust them off and try one.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was a fun read Linda..I am pleased that I have made an effort to try some of these authors I keep hearing about.

  6. Debbie Haupt

Kim I was smiling as I was reading your reaction to the sexy sex scene on audible, it reminded me of when I was listening to Fifty Shades of Grey. LOL
Nice review and I love the cover

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh I haven’t even read those, but yep..I popped that cherry.

  7. Heidi

I am glad that it all worked out after the big stumble. Always makes it worth the read.

  8. Sophia Rose

LOL! My first audio sex scene had my ears burning too.

Oh, this one sounds good- magic words were military, Montana and family.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes those words are magic. LOL, glad I am not alone Sophia.

  9. Ramona

I’m trying to imagine you bushing, frantically clawing at the buds in your ears … lol 😛 It must have been really funny – your poor virgin ears…! You’re right, the cover doesn’t even hint at anything other than a sweet romance which, incidentally, sounds interesting. I do like second chance romances 🙂

Thanks for the heads-up on audio sex. I don’t believe this audio release will work for my road trips with hubby. It will remain a read only book. I love the cover and it was our “In The Spotlight” cover in February at Cover Cafe. The cover illustration is by Alan Ayers and who doesn’t love a Paul Marron cover?

    • kimbacaffeinate

Bwahaha…no. We are going on vacation and I trying to pick audiobooks that he can handle. I like the cover too. 🙂

  11. Candace

I can’t handle sex on audio. Even when I’m completely alone there’s something about it I just don’t like at all. I skim it in books too though, so I’m personally not really a fan of reading about it at all. Since this has lots of detail it might not be for me but I like the setting of Montana!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ah, well I read it with no problem..the first time was Awkward for sure..but it did get better..although I am sure I look like I am up to no good when listening to those scenes.

  12. Eva

This series ended up disappointing me by the end considering I really liked the first book! Great review!!

    Here’s mine

    • kimbacaffeinate

So sorry to hear that this was my first so I have no comparison.

  13. Mary

I’m much better off reading a sex scene than listening to it. For some reason, listening to it makes me blush like a mo-fo!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Right. I am sure even as I adjusted I look guilt as hell of something.

    • kimbacaffeinate

This was fun Ali and I love dual perspectives like this. I will listen to her books again.

  14. Quinn's Book Nook

I’m curious about Kristen Proby. I haven’t read any of her books. The first time I listened to an audiobook sex scene – at home and all by my self – I was blushing like mad too.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yep..it just took me totally by surprise but it got better.

  15. Sarah

Bwahahaha, I hope when you listening to the sex scenes you were all by yourself! lol I agree, from the cover it doesn’t look like it would have much detailed sex. I love family and second chance romances so I’ll have to give this series a go. 😀

    • kimbacaffeinate

Nope first time I was in the food store shopping. I love listening while I shop..ha you should have seen me. Ah, well at least I can laugh about it now.

  16. Jenny

Heh. I definitely think sex scenes via audio would make me blush too Kim! I’m find reading them, give me lots of details, but I think hearing someone else read it to me would make me squirm a touch! Glad you enjoyed this one overall, even though you wanted to smack the two of them at one point or another 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well and we got both perspectives..oh lord. Well now I have done it, and it did get easier..that first time felt like I was ease-dropping or hiding in the bedroom closet..bwahaha.

  17. Nick

    HAHAHAHAH!
“I then looked around as if others could hear what I was hearing. I was probably blushing like an adolescent. :snort:”
This freaking happened to me recently and it was the worst. I kept checking to make sure that no one could hear what was going on inside my ear, but they probably did with the way my face turned red! Haha! It’s so much weirder when you’re listening to a sex scene! xD
I don’t know how I feel about that hiccup between the couple. I find it irritating when I want to slap the heck out of the characters, particularly in romance, but overall the book does sound super sweet.
    Wonderful review, Kim!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thankfully it was short lived, but sometimes you have to have these hiccups to be whole and commit. Hehe..yeah listening in public is hard..I so feel like people can hear..even though I know they cannot.

  18. Silvia

LOL for the virgin ears! 🙂 You know I’m not into audiobooks at all, but I would probably try this on paperback since it also works as a standalone. Glad you enjoyed the audio, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on a new author to me!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Her book is wonderful and my ears have healed 🙂

  19. Red Iza

You made me laugh, I could picture you listening to these hot scenes, lol ! I’m glad you liked it, I have “Come away with me” somewhere on my tablet 😉 Great review !

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ah it looks like I gave everyone a good giggle this morning:)

  20. Benish

I would find it so awkward listening to a sex scene on audio lol thank you for the humorous and honest review Kimberly.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It got better..but definitely a listen alone type of thing..hehe

  21. Sharon

LOL love the “virgin ears” comment.
I’m not sure if one had this author before but this sounds like something I’d enjoy. Great that is can be read as a standalone too.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was a fun listen and I enjoyed all the interaction between the characters.

  22. Melliane

lol I’m sure it would have been fun to see you listening to this scene. But I understand, i’m already like that when I read in public a scene like that too. It sounds like a good one! I didn’t know about it. thanks for the review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

It still makes me giggle..it was like those earbuds were on FIRE
