Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses Seth Mortensen, the shy, sexy, incredibly gifted Seattle writer she's been dating, she'll drain his life force. Georgina is a succubus - a demon who draws her power from other men's pleasure. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can't get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is. It's not just her personal life that's in chaos. Doug, Georgina's co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work. She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star - and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one - and fast because soon, Doug's life won't be the only one on the line.

Succubus On Top is the second novel in the Georgina Kincaid series by Richelle Mead. A quirky succubus, a bookstore, and a motley crew of supernatural friends make this urban fantasy an intriguing and often humorous series. Each book focuses on a case of sorts that out heroine unwittingly finds herself investigating.

This series is quirky and riddled with humor as our beloved succubus Georgina Kincaid attempts to have a relationship with author Seth, fulfill her duties as a succubus and handle her day job at a local bookstore in downtown Seattle.

In Succubus on Top, Georgina becomes concerned when her co-worker Doug’s behavior changes and thinks there may be something supernatural at work. Bastien, her best friend and alluring incubus needs her help corrupting a conservative talk show host and her relationship with Seth is getting complicated. All of these threads are interwoven throughout the tale and laced with humor.

Georgina is a complicated succubus and I found myself adoring her even as I was occasional annoyed. She is curious, flawed and has this ability to get things done. She is keenly aware of things around her, and by nature a fixer. Her life is complicated and I cannot imagine not being able to have an intimate relationship with someone when it sucks the life out of your partner. She makes mistakes frequently, but recognizes them and is brutally honest even at her own detriment.

Seth is geeky, socially awkward and for some reason I find him incredibly sexy. These two create intimacy without sex and it has a depth to it that I find endearing and oddly romantic.
Bastien, her bestie is just how I picture an incubus but Mead shows us a softer, more vulnerable side.. Bastien is without a doubt selfish but his impish charm keeps you from wanting to hit him over the head.

Georgina enlists the help of her supernatural friends to determine what is happening to Doug. The case was filled with twists so of course she quickly found herself in danger. Carter, the angel is perhaps my favorite character, and I really want more of this quiet, mysterious soul. Their unique friendship grounds the series and their interactions are filled with snark and humor. Despite how different they all are, I adore that they have formed this kinship and care for one another.

I am listening to this series on audio and feel it is the perfect story for this format. Elisabeth Rodgers does an excellent job of giving each character a unique voice and captures their personalities.

Succubus on Top was a solid addition to the series and I look forward to continuing this on audio.

I hope you enjoyed this light and funny installment because after Succubus Dreams (book 3), things get much more serious and intense! More danger and definitely more pain for us and poor Georgie.

Oh awesome..i love dark 🙂 I need to pick up the next audio soon!

  2. Liza Barrett

I think this was probably my least favorite book in the series, to be honest (which should speak to how good the rest of it is!). The macro plot really kicks up in the next book. I love Seth! 🙂

I love Seth too, I think the audio adds another layer of enjoyment and got a kick out of secondary characters.

I wasn’t much impressed by Vampire Academy but I ended up loving the rest of the VA series. I’ve got Succubus Blues on audio on my TBR stack, must pick it up soon 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I have not read the VA series, but didn’t really read YA until I began blogging.

Oh, I’m so glad you’re enjoying this series, Kimba. Seth is definitely one of my book boyfriends. 🙂 I adore him. I also love the ensemble cast. Mead created a great group of characters – I like your description of “quirky”. Oh, and Carter…yeah, he won my heart, too.

I am glad I saw this review because I’ve been a little reluctant to get into this series by her. I read her entire vampire series but was not sure what this would be like because it’s an entirely new genre. One I’m not familiar with.
I love the idea of a succubus and other supernatural characters. I have no clue what to read next! I’ll check out book one of the series in see how it goes.
PS: I can confirm that I am definitely caffeinated! Got the new 2.0 Keurig & I think I am loving it a little too much. Next time I’ll put some decaf tea in there! Lol

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL those Keurig’s are so addicting! I hope you like this series Fran, each book gets better 🙂

I really liked these books, and YES, Seth is geektastic. So, so, fantastically geek-sexy . . . *swoons* Glad you’re loving it too 😉

Oh, you pulled a double today. Yeah, I plan to listen to these. At least the first one since I have it, and I’ll see how goes from there. Hmm … maybe I’ll start it tomorrow.

    • kimbacaffeinate

These are fun and yes I am trying to squeeze in my own books..lol I needs the new UBB with double book info.

  8. Silvia

I’ve just read the first book in the series, but I loved it and I’m definitely going to pick up the other instalments at some point! Glad it’s working quite well for you 🙂

So glad you are still liking this series. It really is fun and I think each book gets better. The ending was a great one. 🙂

I <3 Georgie and her merry band of misfits! This series is my one and only experience with Richelle Mead's writing which is weird because after loving the story so much you'd think that I would have picked up more of her titles. *shrugs* I'm with you, Elisabeth Rodgers rocked the narration!

I read the Vampire Academy a long time ago, but that is all that I’ve read from Richelle Mead. Maybe I’ll try this one sometime. Glad you’re still enjoying it.

I am loving the characters in this Melanie. I haven’t read anything else by this author.
