They say opposites attract. And in the case of werewolves Anna Latham and Charles Cornick, they mate. The son-and enforcer-of the leader of the North American werewolves, Charles is a dominant alpha. While Anna, an omega, has the rare ability to calm others of her kind. Now that the werewolves have revealed themselves to humans, they can't afford any bad publicity. Infractions that could have been overlooked in the past must now be punished, and the strain of doing his father's dirty work is taking a toll on Charles. Nevertheless, Charles and Anna are sent to Boston, when the FBI requests the pack's help on a local serial killer case. They quickly realize that not only the last two victims were werewolves-all of them were. Someone is targeting their kind. And now Anna and Charles have put themselves right in the killer's sights...

“You forgot the ‘my precious,’” Anna said dryly. “If you want to act like a freaking nutcase, you have to do it right.”

I enjoyed the first two books, but Fair Game by Patricia Briggs hooked me and I know without a doubt that I will continue the Alpha & Omega series. Filled with danger, humor and character development I loved this world. Our little bunny is turning into one heck of an Omega.

Caffeinated Dates with Fair Game

First date: Anna is becoming more vocal and gods above and below she is giving the “what for” to Bran! Wahoo…I am excited. Time has passed since the last book and the Wolves are out. Charles is struggling with the demands of his job, their relationship has suffered but Anna is beginning to feel confident. From the first notes of Holter Graham’s voice, I was caught up in the tale Briggs’ spun. Thank goodness for wireless headphones because I listened endlessly.

“Taking out werewolves, I gather and surmise, is akin to taking out a SEAL team.”

Second date: Anna and Charles through Bran have been asked to help the FBI, Homeland Security and others with a serial killer. Anna is the liaison, and Charles the hunter. I laughed at this first meeting and love Briggs’ wit. The snark and humor coming off Anna and Charles was positively delightful.

“What would a racist call werewolves? Wargs? She kind of liked that one, but suspected that racist bastards didn’t read Tolkien.”

Third date: While the romance takes a backseat, we do see Anna and Charles’ relationship strengthen. The case and characters held me spellbound and I felt this was the strongest book to date. Witches, Fae and humans Oh My! As a fan of the Mercy Thompson series, it was fascinating being a part of the first collaboration. Briggs weaves a tight tale, making every word and action meaningful. It allowed me as the listener to become completely engaged. Secondary characters including a young Alpha proved interest and I can only hope we see more of them.

“Is it like a Harry Potter thing?” He turned his head then. “A what?” “A Harry Potter thing,” she said again. “You know, don’t say Voldemort’s name because you might attract his attention?”

My dates with Fair Game were brilliant and I managed to listen in just a few sittings. I have an arc of Dead Heat and will read it for comparison but fully intent to buy the audio. I love the job Holter Graham does with the narration and will then be able to share how my experience differs.

“Gods above and below”? Wrong series… *grin*

I have read this book twice and love, love, love the fact that Anna has come so far. I haven’t listened to Holter Graham before, but I do like the sound of his voice.

  7. Sophia Rose

I read this when it released and it was a bit fuzzy, but all came back through your quotes and thoughts. I’m reading Dead Heat soon and can’t wait.

  8. Benish

I usually don’t read Urban Fantasy, but seeing how much you enjoy them – I’m going to look into them now, lovely review 🙂

  9. Teddyree

Do you like it more than the Mercy Thompson series?? Sample was good, I’ve not listened to anything narrated by Holter Graham.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It is different, without the angst that comes from Adam and Mercy/Sam etc. I love them both. Graham rocks..seriously awesome narrator.

  10. Melissa (Books and Things)

My library has the second one on audio but not this one. I begged them to add it. Hope they listen. 😀 Can’t wait to continue this series (and Mercy’s) as well! So behind but have fun catching up.

  11. Candace

I definitely liked this one the best. It’s been so long now since I read it I don’t remember it well but I do remember liking that some time had passed and it seemed like the characters had grown in that time. I’m glad you loved it!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Lauren, yeah I tend to marathon listen for this series..love Holter’s rendition.

  12. Kim

Yay! This series sounds so fantastic, and it just seems to keep improving with each new book. Anna and Charles sound like two characters that I would love to meet.
Lovely review, Kimba! Have a fabulous weekend 🙂

Man, I haven’t read anything from the Alpha & Omega series since I was in high school (so probably about 7 or 8 years). I’ve kind of kept up with the Mercy Thompson series, but even on that one I lag by about a year or so. I may listen to both of these series from scratch on Audible to get caught back up, because I do miss reading them and actually knowing what they’re talking about in the references to prior books.

Lovely review! And I’m glad you enjoyed 🙂

  14. Heidi

I have been reading such brilliant reveiws for this series lately. It’s definitely caught fire! I plan to tackle it once I finish the audios of Kate Daniels and catch up on the last two books in Mercy Thompson! Have a great weekend.

    • kimbacaffeinate

    • kimbacaffeinate

  15. kindlemom1

My review goes up for this next week I believe and I couldn’t agree more with you Kim, this series really is getting better as it goes.

  16. braine

I love Anna’s personality! Such a cool contrast With Charles. Also I enjoy it when she gets on Bran’s nerves because shes an Omega. It would be an awesome scene if she and Mercy gangs up on the Marrok … if they haven’t yet. I need to get caught up with MT

  17. Jenny

YAY!!! I just finished this and really loved it as well Kim! Anna and Charles together just keep getting better and better with each book, and it makes me really happy to see how far Anna has come from the first novella. Her standing up to Bran in the beginning of this one was epic:) I’m reading Dead Heat now, can’t wait to compare notes!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I loved Dead Heat Jenny, I read it but will get the audio as well since I love Graham’s narration.

  18. Nick

I’m so happy this series is improving for you, Kim! With every book it seems the author has managed to impress you. I’ll have to definitely check this series out now. In the summer when I have more time! I promise!! You can call me out on it if I don’t hold on to it! 😉
I love that Anna and Charles’ relationship strengthens!
    Lovely review, Kim!

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I will Nick. Yes, I love that each book is stronger from the character growth to the way in which Anna and Charles interact.

  19. Jessica

So far this is my favorite of the Anna and Charles books too. I really appreciated how much their relationship grew without overshadowing the plot. SO excited about Dead Heat!!

  20. Madiha

Oh yay! It’s so great that you liked this so much. I’m around the bend for a PNR and I decided to go through all your five-star reads, Kim 🙂 The MC sounds really interesting and while the theme of the book doesn’t appeal to me, congratulations on enjoying it 🙂

  21. Ramona

Talk about intriguing! Racist bastards set against werewolves … sound brilliant. And there’s a lot of nicely done humor in it too, which is great. Can’t wait to delve into this series!

  22. Red Iza
