To spice things up on Wednesdays between โ€œWaiting Onโ€ posts and reviews, I am going to share โ€Recipe and a Book Recommendation.โ€ Today I am sharing Banana Nut Bread and Die Again by Tess Gerritsen. She is one of my favorite crime, suspense thriller writers and I cannot wait to devour her latest Rizzoli and Isles book. They work as standalone and I hope you will check it out. My review will post in January. Enjoy!

Recipes to delight your palate and books to feed your mind

Today I am sharing a Banana Bread recipe that can be made with or without nuts. It is basic recipe that you can doctor to suit your mood. What I love about the bread is that it is incredible moist and filling. My family loves it and its the perfect way to ensure overripe bananas don’t go to waste.

Banana Nut Bread

Banana Bread
Ingredients for Banana BreadIngredients:
1-1/3cup of mashed very ripe bananas (2 large)
1/4 cup of milk
1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla
3 eggs
2/3 cup of sugar
2-2/3 cups of Original Bisquick
1/2 cups finely chopped nuts *optional
grease bottom only of 9x5x3 inch pan
Heat oven to 350*

mixing banana breadIn a large mixing bowl with fork mash bananas and combine with all ingredients. Mixture will be lumpy. Pour into loaf pan and bake on center rack for 55 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center of bread. Loosen sides and cool on wire rack.

preparing for ovenThis recipe can be easily modified by adding in additional fruit, nutmeg, a variety of nuts, adding a glaze..your imagination is the limit. Since this loaf contains eggs, milk and bananas I recommend keeping it in the fridge. I general bake and serve on the same day, and if I am lucky I might get a slice with coffee and peanut butter for breakfast.

The latest enthralling case in Tess Gerritsen's New York Times bestselling Rizzoli & Isles series, the blockbuster books behind the smash hit TNT series.Boston Detective Jane Rizzoli is on the case of a big game hunter found dead in his apartment, alone with a the body of a beautiful white snow leopard he had recently been commissioned to procure and stuff for a high-profile museum in the area. Medical examiner Maura Isles connects the case to a number of seemingly unrelated deaths where the victims have all been found hanging upside down, the hallmark of a leopard's kill. Rizzoli follows the puzzling trail of clues all the way to Botswana, where she uncovers the unsolved mystery of a deadly camping safari four years prior. When she realizes the two cases are connected, Rizzoli must track down the sole survivor of the tragic trip to discover who - or what - is behind these gruesome deaths.

I feel in love with Tess Gerristen before the hit show Rozolli & Isles became so popular. While the show is enjoyable it cannot hold a candle to the suspenseful, fleshed out series that Gerristen has written. These medical/crime thrillers are perfectly paced with characters I have come to admire. The story lines and character development different, so if you have watched the series, the books will be fresh. This series begins with The Surgeon, but each can be read as a standalone. Die Again is available December 30,2014 and this fan cannot wait!

When I saw your pic on FB, Kimba, you inspired me to make my own banana bread! ๐Ÿ™‚ I also added some homemade custard to it. Yum!

Oh yum. This recipe is a great base recipe. You can add almost anything. Chocolate chips are good too ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Michelle

Mmm I love banana bread! I really need to try this series out, I have so many of them at the store. I’ll have to see if I have the first one.

  3. Joyce Novacek

Yum!! Thanks for reminding me how much I like banana bread! ๐Ÿ™‚ I like the recipe book combo! Because I can’t relate to anyone who doesn’t like food AND books!

I have the first Rizzoli & Isles book but haven’t read it yet. I’ve heard so many great things about Gerritsen so I’ll crack that book open eventually. ๐Ÿ™‚ Banana bread is hard for me because I live in Colorado – at altitude. But I did finally find a high altitude recipe that works and my family loves it. Thanks for sharing a recipe and a recommendation…I think I’m really going to love this feature of yours. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s been too long since I’ve made banana bread, it’s so delicious and my family loves it too!
Love these recipe and a book posts! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Christy

I love banana bread so much. It’s pain because I love nuts, but my son hates them. And yes, I need to read those books.

  7. Erin

Ahhhhh! I love banana bread! It’s literally one of my favorite foods, and I love trying new recipes for it. I found an espresso banana bread recipe not too long ago that I need to try to bake soon.

  8. sharonda

thanks for the recipe and book share Kim. I love banana bread and who knew the Razzoli * Isles series was based of off books…but that’s not surprising at all. BTW, love that show ๐Ÿ˜‰

  9. Braine Talk Supe

I love banana nut bread esp with a tall glass of milk!

I haven’t read or seen an episode of R&I, between the two I think I have better luck catching up with the show than the book series.

  10. Katherine

I love banana bread! I don’t make it often because I’m the only one in my family who really loves it (they’re weird) and I don’t need to eat a whole loaf on my own. I’ve never seen a recipe for banana bread with bisquick though so I may have to try this out! I really want to read this book series as well! I loved the first 2 seasons of RIzzoli and Isles and would love to see them in book form.

I didn’t know about this series or the TV show (and yes, I live under a rock as it happens). ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love detective dramas and thrillers so I’ll have to check this series out.

Oh and even an amateur baker like me can handle that recipe. Thanks for sharing!

I am looking so forward to Die Again. I love me some R&I in book form ๐Ÿ™‚ I do that whole series on audio though so I will be waiting LOL

  13. Candace

I like Banana bread (minus the nuts) though I HATE banana’s. I guess the taste is changed enough to work for me.
I haven’t read Tess Gerritson yet!

  14. R_Hunt

I love Tess Gerritsen–I’ve read every one of her books, even the ones before Rizzoli and Iles (except for early romances). I met her at a bookstore in Maine (she lives there and I used to) and she stayed after everyone from the meet & greet book-signing was gone and the chairs taken away to sign my books (The Surgeon, and The Apprentice) and tell me a bit about what I had missed in the book talk earlier. What a wonderful, and humorous–strangely enough– person she is!

I make a great banana bread, but we get decadent and put chocolate chips in it. The recipe calls for walnuts also, but daughter doesn’t like nuts so I don’t. Thanks for sharing yours and I’ll try it soon!

  15. Stephanie

Yum! I can’t wait to try this recipe, I’m thinking of adding raspberries or strawberries. I really need to get on this series! It sounds perfect for me. Have you tried Allison Brennan? You may like her if you like this series.

  16. Laurel-Rain Snow

I really must begin this series…going over to check on which one is Number One.

And banana bread would go so nicely with my coffee this morning! LOL

  17. Mary

I LOVE that banana bread recipe — we’ve used it for years and it always brings back memories whenever I make it. When I’m feeling sassy, I add sugar to the top so there’s a sugar crust (not that it needs it but sometimes I need extra sweetness!).

  18. Jenny

Ooooo I LOVE banana bread Kim, thanks so much for sharing this recipe! And I haven’t read any of the Rizzoli & Isles books (but I do love the show!), so I’m going to add this to my list:) Glad to know the series can be read out of order.

  19. Lupdilup

I didn’t know anything about this show or this series!! I need to check out both of them.
Thanks Kimba – About the Banana Cake, I LOVE Bananas! But I don’t like any products made with bananas..isn’t that weird? I looks delish tho. ๐Ÿ™‚
    Thanks!!

  21. Danee

Can’t wait to see your review on this one–I haven’t read any of this author’s work but I might just check it out!

Also, thank you for the recipe!

  22. Naomi

My kids really love Banana bread, I think I should learn to make it.
I never realised the Rozolli & Isles series was a book first!
    Great post girl!

  23. Melliane

I never tried a bread like that but it must be interesting to taste it. I’m not that much into cooked banana but curious. Thanks for sharing the book too, I didn’t know about it.
