Sexy, suspenseful #2 novel of the Mind's Eye Series by Deborah Camp. Psychic detectives Levi Wolfe and Trudy Tucker face an unknown foe who is determined to destroy everything beautiful in Levi's life -- including Trudy. Will Levi's love claim her or kill her?

Earlier this year I read and enjoyed the first novel in the Mind’s Eye series about psychic detectives Levi Wolf and Trudy Tucker. In Through His Touch, their relationship continues to grow as someone is killing off women in Levi’s life. Heavy on romance this paranormal suspense was engaging with fleshed out characters.

Coffee dates with Through His Touch

First Date: The story picks up right where Through His Eyes left off in Levi’s penthouse. Levi has himself a stalker and getting to see him on his own and comfortable in his own world was interesting. Of course, he misses Trudy. Trudy decides to surprise him for his birthday and flies to Atlanta. Things get hot, complicated, and sweet. The heat level throughout the novel is high and my nook sizzled.

Second Date: There are some interesting mystery threads..a stalker and a murder but these take a backseat to the romance and fleshing out of the characters. Levi is complicated, and at times, his walls annoyed me. Things he said had me rolling my eyes and wanting to slap him in the back of the head. Thankfully, Trudy isn’t the least bit shy, and she gives it to him straight. The two work well together, he is the yin to her yang. Trudy meets former girlfriends, and we see growth in their relationship. Camp took the time to give us Levi’s backstory, and it helped make him endearing and allowed me to forgive some of his Neanderthal views.

Third date: All right, already, these two are a cute couple but I want more of the paranormal aspects, murder and mayhem. *we are teased throughout the book with these side stories but I am done with the appetizer and want my meal* Finally the visions, paranormal woo-woo and murder mysteries are front and center and this last section of the novel is strong, and gripping. The first two-thirds read more like a contemporary romance, but this last part gave me the same feels as Through His Eyes. *woot*

Through His Touch was heavier on the romantic aspects, and, I really wanted a more balanced novel. It felt like two different stories. I wanted paranormal suspense wrapped in a side of romance throughout the novel. The ending wrapped up nicely and then we get a teaser in the final paragraph about the next novel. If you have ever read the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones you know the kind of ending I mean.

This is such a fun site! It’s one of my very favorites. Your comments are always enlightening and honest and I so appreciate that! Thanks, everyone.

  2. Lori

I would have never guessed this had any paranormal aspects just by its cover. This sounds like a read I would enjoy, even if it doesn’t have a lot of paranormal I like a good suspense. Thanks for sharing…I’ll be adding this series to my list! 🙂

Thing romantic suspense murder mysteries with a little paranormal woo-woo helping the good guys track a killer. Be sure and read book one first, these are not companion novels but series.

  3. A Belle's Tales

Wish there had been more paranormal fun in there for you, but I do like the sound of the romantic aspect! Thanks for the great review 🙂

I remember your review for the first one and thinking that I really wanted to read it – and I still feel that way. But I do wish it was more balanced, seeing as I love paranormal as much as (to be fair, probably more than) romance. I’ll definitely still try them, but it’s good to be prepared. Great review Kimba!

I am told we go back to the mystery angle being stronger in the next book. 🙂

LOL, I could years ago Anna..now I would end up on the floor. Be sure and read book one first Through His Eyes as they build on each other.

I have to say I hate this cover. I would have never picked it up since it seems to suggest some not so nice things. I sort of get it but it doesn’t quite match with your description. I do like the sound of the paranormal elements within the story but I would probably want something more balanced as well. I might have to library book this one.

    • kimbacaffeinate

They solve murder mysteries, so the cover is dark, but yeah this focused more on the romance, then we got the mystery in the last part. I am enjoying the series, and love the paranormal elements Melissa.

I don’t think this is for me, I would get frustrated with the tease of PNR & having it dumped.on me in the end.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Keep in mind it is a series, and the first book was heavier on the case, the author assures me now that she has fleshed out the characters we will see more like the last part of this book, and it is worth it.

humm sounds interesting, I like the paranormal touch don’t think I would have guessed it otherwise

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is by far my favorite aspect, the murder mysteries are quite good

Hee-hee “-but I want more of the paranormal aspects, murder and mayhem. *we are teased throughout the book with these side stories but I am done with the appetizer and want my meal.” Love this Kimba! I’m glad you enjoyed Through His Touch despite wanting more balance with the mystery and romance. Lovely review 🙂

The last part felt more like book one, and I understand the author wanted to flesh out the relationship and characters..but the murder mystery aspects are to me the strongest aspects.

  9. Candace

I can do without the contemporary romance stuff, but the rest sounds good. I love stuff with psychics!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I hear you. The two have built a relationship and work great together on the cases, I am anxious to see what transpires next.

  10. Lupdilup

I love the cover, but I’ve never guessed it was Paranormal. I never heard of the series before, thank you for putting on my radar, and for reminding me to never judge a book by its cover 😉

    • Deborah Camp

It’s a romantic suspense series with paranormal elements. 🙂 The two main characters are psychic. One can talk to the deceased (Levi) and one can get into the mind of the murderer/kidnapper, etc. (Trudy). Together, they use their abilities to track down serial killers and kidnappers. They are also lovers — getting together for the first time in Book #1 and continuing their new relationship in #2.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It’s romantic suspense with paranormal woo-woo. I loved book one and I’m anxious to continue the series.

    Hi,
Thanks for the review. You know I appreciate it because I bugged you so much for it. It was a tricky balancing act with this one, but it was necessary to delve into Levi’s issues in this book to set the stage for book #3. Also, it was necessary to see the dynamics of Trudy and Levi’s growing relationship. Trudy is emerging as a powerful psychic and confident woman because of the relationship. There is a method to my madness. The next one is heavy on the thriller chiller aspects now that I’ve let you get to know Levi’s demons and Trudy’s depth of talent and grit.
This series and characters was designed to be multi-layered.
Now I need another cup of coffee!
    Cheers!
    Deborah

I get it, and appreciated the insight to the characters. I am really excited to see what happens next..your last paragraphs are killer.

These days I seem to be liking more to a romance than just a romance so I am happy there is a mystery/murder element to this as well.

    Great review Kim.

  13. Nick

That is an unfortunate cover. I’m not too sure how I feel about that. It’s actually bringing some ragey feelings in me …
Anyways, it sounds like the romance takes over the paranormal elements a bit. That’s such a shame. I’m definitely with you on balanced books. One element shouldn’t outweigh another when it comes to books like these.
    Great review, Kim! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

You and your covers Nick. I kinda like it. The romance did take over, but it still had the mystery, just not as much as I wanted. I am enjoying the series and look forward to the next book.

  14. Sarah

I’ve read a few series where it starts out as one genre… and completely moves into another are and I’m like WHAT IS GOING ON HERE. The Psychic Detective theme reminds me of one of my favorite TV shows, Psych. Sounds like you enjoyed it well enough, but not as much as book one. 🙁

    • kimbacaffeinate

It hasn’t changed, it is still a romantic suspense with paranormal elements. This book just focused on the characters more. I am anxious to see what happens next.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah, they use their psychic gifts to solve crimes, aid the police etc. I am enjoying the series, but want more balance.

  15. Melliane

I wouldn’t have expected the paranormal lead with such a cover but I think it’s a nice mix with the mystery and all. I didn’t know about this one but I think it could be interesting. It’s just too bad it’s a lot about the romance. great review!
