Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme

I am still on a crazy reading binge, which led me to getting behind on writing reviews. I just wanted to keep reading. What I needed was some motivation. A carrot to dangle. I found one in the form of Reyes Farrow. *yum* So Tuesday morning I had the newest Daryanda Jone’s book in my hands; Seventh Grave and No Body. I wanted to do nothing but devour it but I also had three reviews to write and schedule for November. What is a girl to do? I used Reyes as motivation..no reviews no Reyes. It is amazing how it motivated me. Despite distractions from emails, Facebook and Twitter I managed to get them written in the morning and spent my afternoon giggling, well snorting and sighing. It was so rewarding. What motivates you?

Heh, that was some good motivation. 😀 And with so many new books, it’s tempting to just keep reading and not stop to write reviews. Enjoy all of your new lovelies!

Thanks Bea. Usually my anal self doesn’t allow me to go more than 48 hrs before writing up my review..but this binge is a powerful one. I have neglected my home as well. Eep.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am really excited about the audio and figured its perfect for the Ho-Ho-Ho read-a-thon.

  2. Berls

Oh I can see why you were motivated! I actually just read the first book in the last month, so I’m just getting to know Reyes 🙂 I go through reading binges too – but what motivates me most is the fear of getting behind again. I just caught up again!

Loving the looks of some of those books you grabbed – I’m curious about Naughty Bits, it looks fun 🙂 Oh and I’m doing the NaNoWriMo Bloggy style too. I so want to get really truly ahead for once. Have a great week Kimba!

This binge has been crazy with a book a day Berls. I am usually very good at writing reviews withing 48 hrs, but on Tuesday I had to write four..LOL

  3. Greg

Hey whatever works, right? 🙂 I’m curious about Sky Pirates since I have the first one around here somewhere… and Bird Box too, heard that was good. Happy reading Kimba!

You sound like me Greg. I could open up a book store called, First in Series. *nods*

  4. Sharon

Nice way to get motivated .:-) I don’t usually have much trouble with my motivation until now and besides being run off my feet with “mum” duties I haven’t quite found a way to increase it as yet. Perhaps when things settle my motivation will return. Burning the candle at both ends is no fun. So, on that note I hope you have a great and happy reading. 😀

I think we can all relate to burning the candles at both ends. Have a wonderful week

    • kimbacaffeinate

We all have our little tricks 🙂 I am usually pretty good and write my review within 48 hrs, but this past two weeks all this girl wants to do is read..as for writing reviews, cleaning and dinner..forgettaboutit!

  5. Nyze

My motivations? Hmm.. That’s a pretty good question. My friends who read my blog basically ’cause I feel I’m a total loser if one of my friends would ask about a book review that he’s waiting for ages. LOL! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is good you have someone to hold you accountable Nyze 🙂

  6. Tressa

I do the same thing as you sometimes – I say I can’t read something until I read the thing I’m avoiding or until I do whatever it is I need to. I’ve really been in a reading mood lately too even though I haven’t been getting much reading done.

I’m salivating over your Brandon Sanderson new addition. I’m planning on reading Mitosis. Such an interesting series!

    Have a fabulous week!

I am enjoying Sanderson’s series. While I got this from the publisher, I do think it is free on audible right now.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Exactly..bliss until you come out of the coma and realize your house is a mess!

  7. Pages and Tea

This sounds pretty familiar – I’m having a good run on reading too, but the reviewing is really suffering because I can’t tear myself away from my book. I really need to find a good motivator too 🙂

Am looking forward to your Blog Ahead post, it sounds really interesting.

Reading binges are awesome! I’ve been like you lately, I have just felt like reading and reading, and not so much for reviewing. But soon, there will be no more posts on my blog if I don’t start writing a little, too.
I am very curious about your Magic Bites audiobook. I recently read the first six books in the Kate Daniels series, and I loved them. So now, I’m wondering about getting the audiobooks as well.
I hope you’ve had a great weekend, Kim, and that next week will be great 🙂 Happy reading.

Lexxie, book one was middle of the road for me, but I am told that is the weakest book/audio. I am scheduled out till Nov 20th on the blog, but if I want to maintain it I need to write up reviews. I am once again 3 reviews behind.

  9. Booketta

It is difficult to stay motivated and sometimes you need a break. I like the idea by way of a treat. But three reviews in one day? Not for me. I prefer to space them out.
Booketta recently posted…Sunday Post #11My Profile

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL. Guess what I am sitting on three more reviews, and have to clean house since I avoided it last week to read. I am still on a book reading binge, but the house will need to come first.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Usually I am very disciplined..but this binge has me forgetting about everything like reviews, chores and dinner.

  10. A Voracious Reader

I’m 9th in the library book queue for Seventh Grave. Oops! I just ran to look and I’m now 7th. They must have gotten the book (or books) in. 🙂

I am such a huge procrastinator when it comes to writing reviews. No matter how much I try to do them up after finishing a book, it just doesn’t happen. I end up spending a day writing up a whole bunch at once. I’m about to throw in the towel and go with it since it appears that it’s just my nature. 😀 Now, that’s not to say I don’t need rewards because I do. And my rewards can be anything from chocolate, nommy treats or a few minutes play time on the internet. The best reward though is changing the color on my Google calendar and unchecking the box ‘need to write review’ on BookLikes. Such a rush! lol

Oh Seventh Grave is awesome, and I so tried to savior it..Not. My oldest is like you she waits and does somethings all at once. I get too twitchy if I do that.

  11. Lola

Yay for your reading binge continuing! I always tell myself I can’t start a new book before I have written my review of the last book I read, it works pretty well for me. It’s been a sort of routine for me and I guess that motivates me to just write the review.

Have a great week and enjoy your new books!
Lola recently posted…Sunday Post #97My Profile

    • kimbacaffeinate

Lola, that always works for me..but not this time. I have neglected everything..the house, making dinner, blogging..yep. I need to focus tomorrow morning and get chores done and than on Tuesday write all the reviews I have in my head.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Sarah. I got a new design, and theme last year. Ashley @ Creative Whims designed the layout and graphics. I adore it.

  12. Lark

Good for you for getting caught up and still enjoying your reading binge! I use that sort of motivation, too – but when I’m indexing, rather than blogging. I promise myself rewards for getting my daily quota done. If it’s really a tough slog, I even do interval rewards: 10 pages and I can get on Facebook for 10 minutes, 25 pages and I can have half an hour to read for fun. For my daily and project-long goals, I give myself money for books or yarn. 🙂

Your new books look good and I’m way behind on reading your reviews. Sadly, I may not get to catch up for a bit as I’m spending almost every available minute working. But I’ll try!

  13. Michelle

I realized what motivates me comes in the form of a 9 year old boy. This week my son told me he was so proud of my blog and loves that I do it. He wants me to be famous lol. Not sure about the famous part but he sure did make we want to be a lot more productive 🙂
Loved your recipe and book post this week. Was planning on pinning but my pinterest button disappeared on my browser (damn kids) lol My daughter would LOVE those bacon wrapped little doggies 🙂

  14. Alma

Congrats on getting caught up with reviews! It’s so tempting to skip them and keep reading, and I’m terribly guilty of doing this! I’m four reviews behind at the minute, and no matter how much I try to convince myself I need to write them ahead of time, I end up waiting until the last minute – oops! One day, I’ll become organised. One day…

Enjoy all your new books, have a great week!

*shivers* I am really anal Alma. So this is uncharted territory for me. I have all of my posts with the exception of the Sunday Post complete and scheduled on my blog through November 20th. I am once again sitting on three reviews I need to write. I don’t know if it is the weather or water..but I have done nothing but read. Tomorrow I need to clean since I neglected to do so last week. I have an audiobook and will listen and clean. On Tuesday I plan to sit and not move till I am caught up on these reviews!

I am really excited to listen to it Yvonne. I am a sucker for doors on covers and holiday themed reads.

  15. Jan

So great to know what motivates you and to use it, Kimba. Also a reading binge is so fun. I had a reading binge earlier in the month and loved the books I was reading. It was hard to do anything else! I need to decide on something to motivate me to do the stuff I’m putting off!

You got some great looking books. Have fun reading and blogging!

  16. Laura Thomas

It’s so funny your topic was about writing reviews and motivation. I was just showing my son a book I just received and wanted to read and then showed him the ones I needed to review. My motivation was, finish the reviews this morning and then I can go outside and enjoy the beautiful day, sitting at the table reading and sipping tea. My reviews are written and now I’m off to read!
Enjoy your book and thanks for hosting.

Rewards are such good motivators and that sounds divine. Sundays are hard for me, since it takes me close to four hours to respond and visit ya all..but i would not trade it. I love my coffee time with ya all. Tonight I will reward myself with a good book!

  17. Camille

I love your motivation! Now, I’ve only heard about Reyes since I haven’t started reading Darynda Jones yet but good for you! I sometimes have the same issue as well, reading and reading and not being able to write reviews. 🙂

I read that around release, and for some reason forgot to schedule it. The post was done and in my cue forever. After I published the final book I realized the review was missing in the links. Oops.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am usually so good about reading and reviewing. This past two weeks I have been so naughty..even neglected the house!

  18. Rita

I would be interested in Five Minutes Alone, Bird Box, Winter Street, The Collector, and Silver Thaw. How’s that for an eclectic line-up? I’m so glad that you’re eclectic also, because I find some different titles here 🙂

What motivates me in the blogging-sense? Well lately I have cut back on my posting because of time restraints combined with a general lack of energy toward keeping my blog up and running. *What keeps me motivated* is wanting to share my thoughts with my blogger friends and not letting that special bond disappear. Thanks for allowing us to be honest here.

Those are good motivators Rita. I love the interaction with fellow book lovers, and that high I get when I recommend a new book or author and someone tells me they adored it or have a new favorite author..yep you cannot bottle that feeling! I love my eclectic taste I can travel the world, get all the feels etc.

  19. Kathy

That is great motivation and I also do the same thing. I had to stop myself from reading that one book I was dying to read and focus on the reviews that needed to be done. I still get behind on reviews but I at least write up some notes so I don’t forget what I want to say lol. I still haven’t read Darynda’s series but I have the first book! My goal for next year is to read all the series I’m behind on. I hope you enjoy all your new books and have a great week!

I find my motivation to be pretty similar to yours, I can’t continue reading until I’ve caught up with my reviews 🙂 I’m a fairly new blogger though, so I can see how once you’ve been doing it for awhile it would be more difficult to keep up. Hope you have a great week!

I am usually very disciplined. I think because I had to reduce my reading over the summer as we planned our daughter’s wedding that I suffered a little withdrawal and I am making up for it in spades!

  21. Terri M.

For writing reviews? Just getting up early on the weekend and cranking them out while sipping to coffee. The cats and hubby are sleeping so I’m less likely to get distracted. Also allowing myself to get up and pace while I workout a difficult way to phrase something. I’ve found that if I sit down and force myself to stare at my screen I’m less productive!

Candace I never slack on them, so this binge has taken me by surprise. My poor house is a mess too. Tomorrow I have an audio binge lined up and will clean while doing it. On Tuesday I plan to sit in front of this laptop until I am completely caught up on my reviews. LOL

  22. Heidi

I am kind of in the middle of a burn out on writing reviews and reading gasp. I think it is because Wicked wears me out. Luckily, it is almost done and I can binge read this week. I am so excited to read Burn for Me and I started Mortal Heart last night. Have a wonderful week, Kimba.

  23. Jessica

Oh nice! Still waiting for my copy of 7th Grave to arrive. Hate waiting! May have to mess up my reading/review schedule again when that one comes! Poor review books have been neglected lately, though I did read 2 last week and I plan to get back to them after another 2 reads! Though I am still ahead of the game because only 1 is a non-ARC and none of the ARCs are officially published yet, so YAY!

Hope you enjoy all your new reads!

I can be lax at writing reviews, I should use your motivation tip as nothing motivates me like reading. Mostly I find when I just sit down and write them, I’m fine, it’s just sometimes the actual idea of writing reviews can seem like a chore. I also know they flow better for me while everything is still fresh in my head and that is motivation in itself.

Oooh, Bird Box is amazing! As for your question, I don’t write traditional reviews anymore, so I don’t get behind anymore 🙂 I do post Reading Highlights of each book I read, but these only take a minute to set up, and then another couple of minutes to fill in after I finish a book.
