The Beautiful Disaster and Walking Disaster phenomenon continues in the first heart-pounding new adult romance in The Maddox Brothers series. Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year. Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt. Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red. As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart. In the first installment of the Maddox Brothers books, readers can experience the rush of reading Beautiful Disaster for the first time, all over again.

Beautiful Oblivion is the first in the Maddox Brothers series and the third book in the Beautiful series by Jamie McGuire. I have loved this series from the get-go and fell in love with Trenton Maddox. Beautiful Oblivion takes place during Abby and Travis Beautiful Disaster, and we catch glimpses of their world-wind relationship.

I will be totally honest and tell you from the get-go Cami made me absolutely friggin’ crazy, but I adored Trenton and by the end I had forgiven Cami and wanted them to find their happy. While fans of the series will recognize McGuire’s brand of turbulent, sweet, hot, and fierce romance I quite enjoyed the ride.

Trenton has seen tragedy, but like a true Maddox, he is loyal and puts family first. When he loves, it is the kind of love that makes your knees go weak as it pulls at your heartstrings. He is hotheaded like his brother but shows a lot more restraint. He is possessive at times and a little over protective, but he is also respected Cami and did not push her even if that is what he wanted.

Cami has had it rough as the only female sibling in her family. She is fiercely independent and in a long distance relationship when we first meet her. I was not sure how I was going to feel about that. Cheating is a huge no, no for me, but McGuire worked it out, and no real lines were crossed, although they were a little blurred. She has this big secret, and hints about it ruining everything. It made me crazy, and I guessed but you will have to put on your own detective badge and sort it out for yourself.

Cami and Trenton despite their differences together are this perfect balance of rightness, and I could not help but root for them. We get some hot sexy times, but we also get sweet, tender moments. McGuire gives us side characters with drama to care about and of course, now I want their stories. The big reveal, despite my guessing was pretty fricking’ twisted and McGuire pulled it off. I imagine many fans jaws dropped, and then went back to look for those not so subtle clues.

I loved how Beautiful Oblivion‘s  timeline ran parallel to Beautiful Disaster, and it was neat tying Travis back to certain scenes and moments. Fans of the series will be delighted with this installment, and I cannot wait for Beautiful Redemption, the next Maddox story! The story is Thomas Maddox’s, the oldest brother. At this time, the release date has not been determined but I want it now!

I can’t believe that I’ve only just checked out your review now. *forehead slap*
Glad you enjoyed it as I’m a big fan of this series and I’d read some mixed reviews, so I was a little apprehensive about starting this.
Will have to grab it off the shelf and give it a go!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I enjoy her romances 🙂 Hope you like it too Sharon 🙂

  2. Alexa

I wasn’t completely in love with Travis so I’m hoping that Trenton impresses me more than Travis. I do like the sound of this story and I love a guy who knows what he wants even if he does have a slight temper and angst.
    Thanks for the great review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

For me, I fell in love with Travis in the second book Beautiful Disaster when we saw his perspective.

  3. Naomi

Oh wow Kimberly! You really have made me want to grab this one now! It is great to see that you loved Trenton, and Cami grew on you. I am curious about this secret that put a twist in the story. Fab review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Naomi. A lot of peeps were disappointed by the twist. But I enjoyed the book

  4. Nereyda

I loved this book, until that bullshit ending which made me hate it. It just made no sense…
So many people love this one, glad you did too 🙂

      • Nereyda

I think the way everyone hyped this one up, making the ending seem like such a huge plot twist and cliffhanger, set my expectations to high. I was expecting her super secret boyfriend to be a drug dealer or something better. So when I got to the ending I was like ‘are you serious? That’s it?’

        • kimbacaffeinate

I hadn’t read any reviews, since I read this around release, but I figured it out really early from little clues, so for me I knew it was coming and thought peeps would be surprised. I think a lot of folks felt let down.

  5. Katherine

I love the cover of this book but was completely unaware that it was part of a series. I’m glad you liked it and that the annoying characters redeemed themselves! I’ll definitely have to check this one out.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It works as a standalone. This new set of books features the other brothers,.and I love brothers..lol

  6. Lisa

I enjoyed this one too. My only problem was the big shocking reveal at the end… It didn’t seem so big to me. I thought “that’s it?!?!” when I got to the end, so I was a little let down. Glad you liked it so much! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I figured it out early on, so I thought maybe it had more impact on those that didn’t but I guess not. It wasn’t climatic for me since I knew.

  7. Stacy (StacyHgg)

    Great Review Kimberly!
I ADORE this series, mainly because it brought me back to reading after a few years off. Travis had MANY flaws but he was instantly my fav BBF ever, LOL
As for Beautiful Oblivion, I absolutely loved this one too. Unlike you I did not guess the “secret” until it was revealed (and you know when that was) — and my jaw HIT THE FLOOR! I was like NO FREAKIN’ WAY! LOL
So I applauded Mrs. McGuire for fooling me, AND shocking me. I can’t wait for the next one 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh good glad to hear your jaw did drop..others were like “that’s it?” I couldn’t gage since I picked up on all the clues.

      • Stacy (StacyHgg)

Yes i have heard many people say “that’s it?” and I was lucky (and maybe naive) to have been fooled, LOL
My sister was also fooled so she called me when she found out freakin out! I was like I KNOW!!!! So the Author at least fooled two of us haha.
So I have to say I was not disappointed at all with this one. Could I be a bit partial when reading, maybe. 😉

  8. Lily

Ohh i’m so thrilled you ended up liking this one Kimba! I also liked it and liked how it was parallel to Travis and Abby’s story! There were certain scene we got that had me smiling like crazy! ALL THE FEELS MAN! Haha 🙂 Glad we finally have a name for the next Maddox book. At first BO was listed as the first of a series than after it came out on goodreads it was changed to a standalone and I was very confused. Glad it’s finally a “series” again!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Right..I wasn’t sure, but think it needs to be given the tie ins.

  9. Sharon - Obsession with Books

I have been curious about this series but I’m not completely sure if Beautiful Disaster would really be for me based on a few reviews I have read. I did read Apolonia recently & I quite liked the authors writing style. I might give this a go at some stage.

    A great review Kimba!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am glad you liked Apolonia, I do have that on my wishlist but was so disappointed in her Red Hill book.

  10. Kiran J.

I have yet to read a Jamie McGuire book! Although, I’ve heard her books are great! I think I need to catch up 😛 Great review, Kimberly 🙂

  11. Braine Talk Supe

BD fans are really thrilled and happy with this spin-off. Its great that you approve of it too. I want to read her apocalyptic series though, that’s more up my alley.

  12. Melissa (Books and Things)

I’ve been on the fence about these books but you have been pushing me toward getting them. I keep changing my mind but I think I just need to take a plunge. I’m glad that she worked out the cheating part as it is also a no for me as well.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I really enjoy this series Melissa, I wouldn’t want a steady diet of this genre but its brothers!!

  13. Heidi

I have had this series on my list for so long way back to 2010 and I still haven’t dipped my toe in it. Why? IDK… need to fix that.

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I have series like that. I have finally begun the Kate Daniels story.

  14. Tanja

It’s been a while since I’ve read Beautiful Disaster and I still haven’t read other books in this series. But even though I’m not keen on reading NA I’m really curious about other Maddox brothers. This seems like a really good story. Great review, Kim 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I enjoying mixing them in Tanja 🙂 and its brothers..my weakness!

  15. Candace

I’ve heard a lot of great things about her books but I guess I haven’t had a strong urge to read them yet. Probably just not fitting for my moods lately. But one day I’ll have to give them a try!

  16. Melissa

I am torn between wanting to add this to my TBR immediately and then screaming “Nooooooo” because it means adding two more series to my lists! lol

  17. Christy

This book annoyed me because there was no reason for the ‘secret’, especially since everyone and their dog seemed to know. It was just drama for drama’s sake. But, I did enjoy it on some level. I just don’t think I’ll continue with these books.

  18. Sarah

I admit I stopped reading with the first book… too much drama for me, I guess. Glad you liked it, and I do love the cover!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh now I loved Travis, and you know how I love to mix things up 🙂

  19. Nick

I’m not a fan of this author or the first book in this series, but Nereyda told me what happens in this book and I was not happy with the main character even if I didn’t know her! Trenton sounds likeable though! I’m glad you enjoyed it, Kim!

  20. kindlemom1

Yes! I loved that this ran parallel with BD too! It was such an interesting take on some of the events from BD plus I just loved Trenton. Maybe not as much as Travis but in a totally different way!

  21. Lupdilup

OMG! You just reminded me that I haven’t listened to it and it has been waiting on my audio library since it first came out!!! I can’t keep up with the books I already own, and here I’m trying to add more…What’s wrong with me??..LOL
Any how, great job with the review! I’ll squeeze in over the weekend, I want to know about that reveal.
    Thanks Kimba 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

*hugs* It happens but now you have something exciting to read 🙂

  22. Carrie

I’m a mega Jamie McGuire fan and I adored Beautiful Disaster. For some reason I just can’t get into this one. I’ve tried a couple of times but I think what happened is it got ruined for me because I stupidly read a spoiler. If that hadn’t happened to me I think I would have loved this book too. I just think her writing is awesome… and I love the Maddox boys!

Great review by the way… it makes me want to forget about the spoiler and read it!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh hate when a spoiler does that..and I feel for you Carrie. Reviews and friends mouths should come with warnings..lol

  23. Jennifer Bielman

Don’t know why it is taking me so long to get to the third book. You know how much I love this series. Happy the characters were great in the end.

  24. Mary

I’ll fully admit that I haven’t read any of these and I’m not sure if I’m going to. But you’re tempting me. Yes, you are! It’s just…the angst of NA. *puts on Maybe shelf* *pats*

    • kimbacaffeinate

The older brothers feel more adult to me Mary:) the trick is just the right amount of angst, and no overkill 🙂

  25. Melliane

Oh I didn’t know this one was part of 2 series. I haven’t tried the books but I keep hearing amazing things about them and everyone is loving them here too so I think I really need to try them. A friend asked me if I wanted them, maybe I’ll say yes.
