In a small town, reputation is everything. In her latest novel, #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr explores the burden placed on a young man returning home to face his mistakes—the first step in claiming the life he was meant to live ... At the age of nineteen, Seth Sileski had everything. A superb athlete and scholar, handsome and popular, he was the pride of Thunder Point. Destined for greatness, he lost it all in a terrible accident that put an end to his professional football career when it had barely begun. The people in his hometown have never forgotten what might have been. Seth has come to terms with the turns his life has taken. But now he's been presented with an opportunity to return home and show his father—and the people of Thunder Point—he's become a better, humbler version of his former self. Winning over his father isn't the only challenge. Seth must also find a way to convince his childhood neighbor and best friend, Iris McKinley, to forgive him for breaking her heart. With his homecoming, will Seth be able to convince the town, his family and especially Iris that he's finally ready to be the man who will make them all proud?

Carr has her groove on! The Homecoming the sixth book in her Thunder Point series gave me all the warm fuzzies I used to feel with the Virgin River series. Friends to lover’s trope with a twist made Seth and Iris’s romance a fun ride. The Homecoming was hot, funny, and full of small-town issues.

Carr weaved small-town life, and domestic issues into the tale while introducing new characters for readers to love. Seth Sileski grew up in Thunder Point and was the pride of town, until a car accident changed all that. He is back and ready to take over as the Sheriff, thanks to Mac’s promotion. Seth needs to find a way back to his best friend, neighbor and girl who holds a piece of his heart. Iris McKinley is trying to avoid Seth. He hurt her, and she refuses to fall back into their old routine, but Seth is determined to gain her friendship again and more…

Seth is a likable character from the onset. He is a handsome, noble guy who cares for his Momma. You know the type. As Carr peeled back his layers and revealed more of this man, I swooned ladies. I. Just. Swooned. Iris McKinley is a true sweetheart, and someone I could easily friend. She works as a guidance counselor at Thunder Point high and I loved the voice Carr gave her. Snark, wicked banter and heated kisses made the tale delicious. There is a little competition for Seth, and I liked that Carr did not push it too far, adding just enough tension to make things interesting.

While The Homecoming focuses on the romance between Seth and Iris, we do get some interesting side stories and one addresses a serious issue. Carr did her research, and enlightened while creating a suspenseful thread and introducing more characters to become invested in. I seriously want to back my bags and move. I love that I am now able to close my eyes and envision the main street, the local hangouts and the football field.

The Homecoming was delightful and exemplifies everything I love about Robyn Carr and her small-town series.

This sounds so good. I have one of her books, but haven’t read it yet. I’ve heard such good things about this author and this series. Great review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Ellen, I really enjoy visiting her small-towns.

  2. Nicole

I got my first Robin Carr book at BEA. I haven’t read it yet, but after seeing your praises of her, I’m much more excited about reading it!

  3. Red Iza

I guess it’s a standalone, then. I’ve never read her novels, not yet, but I love small town stories and friends to lovers tropes. OK, I’m putting it on my list, “the” list that will soon reach as high as the Eiffel tower lol !

  4. Jeann

Oh my gosh Seth! Seth sounds like such a swoon worthy guy, we don’t need a bad boy to make us swoon! And Iris sounds like she is full of snark and fun. Lovely review Kimba!

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is right, sometimes a good guy is totally swoon worthy!

    • kimbacaffeinate

What?!? Aurian I am shocked. Yes, we need to fix that.

  5. Paij Slater

Book 6…You have my head spinning :). In a good way. I love a good series. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL Paij, yes book six but they each work as standalone.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am really starting to feel at home in Thunder Point and hope you enjoy them Bea 🙂

  6. Loupe Duffy

Than you Kimba! This sounds lovely and you can bet is being added to my wish list, hopefully I’ll be listening to it soon 🙂
I hope you injury is doing much better.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Agreed Diana. After VR I wasn’t sure I could love another series, but the folks of Thunder Point are growing on me, 🙂

  7. Dea S.

I really enjoyed Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series but I have yet to give this one a try. Glad to hear it’s as enjoyable as VR! Great review, Kimberly!

  8. Mary

I hate to admit it…I like Robyn Carr’s stories but I don’t love them. They’re a little too…sweet. Nice. Sweet. I like the wicked, the bad a bit more.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ooo I like the wicked and bad too, but I read 20 plus books a month and love mixing in these small-town reality reads too. She did get a little spicy in a few VR novels but yep they are general sweet.

  9. Katherine

That’s it I’ve GOT to read this author. I know to start at the beginning but this series or Virgin River?

    • kimbacaffeinate

Virgin River is still my favorite Katherine but Thunder Point is growing on me:)

  10. Lark

I really liked this one, too, Kimba! And did you see that Robyn Carr shared the link to your review on her FB page, and called it an “awesome review!”? 🙂

My review comes out on Tuesday (release day). And I just bought Virgin River for my Kindle (since my previous version was a 4-in-1 PDF for my old Sony ePub reader) because it’s time for a re-read.

  11. Tanja

Every time you review a book set in small-town I realize how little books set in that environment I read. I’m usually either in some bad-ass fantasy places or like Paris, London and stuff. I need to catch up with little-towns I guess. But yeah I’m really glad that this one was interesting and fun! I love fun books. Great review, Kim 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

It is nice going to AnyWhere USA and getting to know the townspeople.

  12. Heidi

Oh I like that this is more than a cute fluffy romance in a small town. I enjoy additional sidestories and I am curious about the serious issue.

    • kimbacaffeinate

You would like this series and the Virgin River series Heidi, while there is a romance, Carr takes us into town life and daily issues. She also addresses issues concerning Vets in VR. The romances are sweet and fade to black.

  13. Jess

Carr sounds like a talented author. Always nice to find a series that is full of great books and interesting characters. 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Jess, I love getting to know all of the townsfolk.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I keep watching for “real” swoon-worthy dudes for you Melissa 🙂

  14. Luci

I can’t wait! Just got The Promise! I LOVE your books! Feel as if I know the people! Thank you

    • kimbacaffeinate

Enjoy Luci. I loved her Virgin River series and am delighted with my time spent in Thunder Point 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes and she didn’t over do it..just enough to nudge..ya know?

  15. Robyn Carr

Awesome review, Kimberly! Thank you so much! I loved writing The Homecoming so much that when it was finished and time for me to move on, I missed Iris and Seth so much!

    • kimbacaffeinate

thanks for stopping by you made this #fangirl’s day!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I think you would like the small town and all the goings on. She touches on real life issues and the romances are slow-burn.

  16. Lily

Oh I love the sound of this one, with the romance and setting! I’ll have to keep my eye out for it! Lovely review Kimba 🙂

  17. Debbie Haupt

Ooh Kimba nobody can beat a Carr novel when she’s got her “groove” on 🙂
Great Review this is on my pile
    thanks !

  18. Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

Awesome! The last one was such a disappointment for me. I expected a lot from Scott’s story, but it fell flat completely which made me a bit afraid to pick this up. I know it wasn’t your favorite either so I find this review extremely comforting. Now I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

No the unnecessary drama and communication issues were an issue for me, but this was fantastic.

  19. Rita

    Thanks for quick reply–you’re awesome!.
You know I am not a reader of lustful romance with a whole lot of heat, so I will start the Virgin River series first then. If I like that one and catch up, i will switch to Thunder Point.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, those are all fade to black, and slow building. DM is also fade to black.

      • Rita_h

Thanks! Intend to start reading the first Virgin River series next week.

  20. Rita

I have been dipping my toes into the (contemporary small town) romance series pool of late! I needed a change-up.

I read A Summer in Sonoma by Robyn Carr, downloaded the first Virgin River series book and also the first in Bella Andre’s Sullivan series. Any opinion on your fave series which I should start first…
    RC’s Virgin River series, BA’s Sullivan series, DM’s Cedar Cove, DM’s Rose Harbor or RC’s Thunder Point? I want to be loyal to one series first off and get to know their personalities, then try out the other books. Not all the time, or I will lose my readership lol, I still read suspense thrillers and the like too. 🙂 Thanks so much! {btw, received the giveaway books from you and I do appreciate it so much}

    • kimbacaffeinate

Rita you are making me giddy. Robyn Carr’s Virgin River series is one of my favorites so I would start there. Andre’s has a little more heat. I absolutely love DM’s Christmas novels, and read Cedar Cove series years ago. Ooo Carr, then Andre, the MacComber.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Silvia, I am enjoying this small coastal town and its folks

  21. Nick

All the books in this series just sound lovely. I need to try a Robyn Carr book and my library is overflowing with them. I like that this tackles a serious issue as well.
    Lovely review, Kim!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Try the Virgin River series Nick it is one of my favorite small-town series ever.

  22. Carmel

You’re on a roll with small town reads lately! Quit adding to my list, Kimberly! 😉 I love books with a message, and from your review I gather that the author accomplished that with her side story. And, who doesn’t love a good romance? Happy Friday!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

LOL, I have two or three I am reading that are series so they pop up on here and for some reason they all release around the same time. 🙂

  23. Jennifer Bielman

I love when fictional and real guys love their mom. I never understood why it is somewhat considered bad or non-manly. Taking care of your family is the manliest thing you can do!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Melliane, I have fun reading and sharing them 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Kathryn, I am delighted to hear you loved it too.
