When the FBI brings Laura Roberts – a quiet, reserved bookkeeper – in for questioning regarding activities at the warehouse where she works, an uneasy Laura resigns her job – only to be attacked by thugs. Chase Donovan intends to spend a few peaceful days on his boat getting his head together – and finds a woman being assaulted by two men who say his father told them to do it. Chase doesn’t want to believe his father could hurt anyone. Laura doesn’t understand why she’s a target. Can they learn to work together to discover the truth – before someone dies?

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres. I love the action, mystery and seeing two people thrown together in a high stress situation. Magic Moments by Angela Adams was a fun ride, filled with danger and a romance featuring one of my favorite tropes.

The set up for Magic Moments is an excellent one. Laura is approached, detained and questioned by the FBI in regards to her bookkeeping job and the dockside Fruit Company, who employs her. It scares her, and she hands in her resignation. These events have her kidnapped, drugged and tied to a bed inside a sailboat. As she prepares herself for the unthinkable Chase Donovan rescues her. He owns the boat where she was attacked and is the son of her former employer. The thugs claim Donovan’s Dad hired them, but Chase is having a hard time believing his father would ever hurt Laura. Laura is not sure if she can trust Chase, but the two decide to work together to find the truth.

The tale that unfolds was captivating. Adams used a few of my favorite tropes including the marriage arrangement, but she added her own unique twists. The relationship that developed between Laura and Chase resembled insta-love at the beginning and I rolled my eyes. However, Adams slowed things down and allowed them to grow, and flounder as a couple before declarations of undying love. The romance itself is sweet, fade to black and will have broad appeal. The investigation was interesting with several well crafted plot twists.  The FBI and the family relationship made for some exciting developments. Chase and Laura are an attractive couple, but their relationship is a rocky one. Miscommunication, emotions and family meddling created some turbulence in the middle of this ride. I may have wanted to smack them both in the back of the head a time or too, but there is growth and I genuinely cared about them. The tale started off intense, meandered in the middle and took off during the last portion of the book as the tension escalated. I closed this book satisfied with the ride.

If you are looking for quick suspense and sweet romance, then Magic Moments offers a delightful escape. Adams spins a good tale, and I look forward to reading more of her work.

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres Stephanie.

The cover would have stopped me cold, love it. Everything about the book hooked me, even with the meandering in the middle and insta-love. They frustrate me and I love a novel that keeps me racing through the pages hanging by my fingertips, but if the story ends on a high note, I can let some things slide.

I’m pretty sure I have this somewhere, either on kindle or on my bookshelf. Am a little sad to hear that is stalls in the middle (why is it so many books do that?!), but good to know it picks up again!!
    Hugs!

    • kimbacaffeinate

It happens Sabina, it wasn’t too bad of a stall, but I like when the ebb and flow is consistent throughout.

  3. Heidi

I enjoy any kind of suspense, but romantic suspense is better as it isn’t as gritty and dark. I think I would like this one.

    • kimbacaffeinate

This is fairly light Heidi and suspenseful. Enjoy 🙂

  4. Lupdilup

I saw of the feed that his was romantic suspense, so I had to come and check right away. I have become highly addicted to this genre after not enjoying in the past. Of course I have to do my run to audible. This was published a while back, so I got a shot!..lol
    Thanks Kimba 🙂

I did not know your character in Magic Moment is a bookkeeper. I need to read it for sure. As a CPA myself, I like to read stories involving accountants just to see how the author handled the technical issues.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ooo you need to pick some up, I love the twists and tension

  6. Candace

I like romantic suspense because the intensity of the situation usually makes the romance even better. I just don’t seem to read them often. This one sounds good though!

  7. Tanja

I don’t read this kind of stories so often but I think I should. I love seeing two people thrown into something without previous notice. I like to see them change. But the thing that makes me really happy is that the romance here got to develop. Great review 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Tanja, I love the added element of suspense to my romances

I am so glad the insta slowed down and the relationship was allowed to develop and grow. I also love the arranged marriage (fake or real) trope, it is kind of a fun one.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I love any kind of arranged marriage, this was fake and it always makes for delicious interaction and development.

I backed away a bit when you said insta-love, but I’m glad she slowed things down and let them struggle a bit. The scenario is definitely interesting – I already feel Laura. First taken by the FBI for questioning, that scares her into quitting, so I can only imagine how she freaks out when she’s KIDNAPPED! Wow, poor thing. Great review Kimba!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I know right..I was worried, but then it slowed down.

Sounds like a good read! My first introduction to romantic suspense was Mary Stewart’s books, back when I was in high school. I didn’t start reading any contemporary authors until I picked up a Jayne Ann Krentz four or five years ago. Now I enjoy the genre as long as the suspense part isn’t too dark and violent!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I can do dark and violent but agree romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres.

  11. Carmel

I recently discovered Romantic Suspense (Rebecca Zanetti’s SINS BROTHERS), and I want more! I’ve turned into a total romance junkie since I got married. LOL Thanks for feeding my addiction, Kimberly!

    • kimbacaffeinate

You need to add Jayne Anne Krentz, and Lori Foster to your list 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was a fun, suspenseful ride Brandi 🙂 thanks

  12. Mary

Generally not a good thing when you’re kidnapped — definitely time to quit that job!

  13. Nick

That cover is not very eye-catching. I honestly wouldn’t even have given it a second look. Anyways, I like a good romantic suspense novel as well, but miscommunications are very frustrating in books. The romance does sound sweet though. Glad you liked this one, Kim! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

lack of communication etc annoy me too Nick, thankfully this wasn’t overdone 🙂

  14. Stephanie Faris

Almost every subject has been done in fiction, so it’s that unique twist that makes us keep reading. Sounds like this book has that uniqueness.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Very true and I love when an author puts their own mark on it

  15. Rashika

Romantic Suspense is one of my favorite genres too. There is nothing that makes me feel better than cracking open one when I just need some cheering up.

This one really does sound exciting and I am so glad you enjoyed it, Kimba!!

    Lovely review!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

You are welcome Angela, it was a fun ride 🙂

  16. Carolyn (Book Chick City)

I only found Romantic Suspense a year or so ago, and now it’s one of my favourite genres too. I just love the combination of romance with the thrill of the action. I think I already have this one on my iPad so I may bump it up the list 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I love the genre Carolyn. Glad you are enjoying it as well 🙂

  17. Lola

I love books (and movies) with FBI stuff but not really arranged marriages lol. I’m too independent so I can I can’t really connect with the story in those kinds of situations. Though there are exceptions. 😛 Fantastic review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

These are fake arranged marriages or relationships not like historical ones Lola.

  18. Siiri

Oh, no! A kidnapping story. Eh, those are always so emotionally draining for me. So Chase is her knight in shining armor? 😉 Heh yay. I love the marriage arrangement plots too though *cringes* instaaa. No, thanks! I’m glad you liked this tension-filled book as a whole.
