Coffee Pot ReviewsWelcome to Coffee Pot Reviews! These are short and sweet reviews done in the length of time it takes my coffee pot to brew! I have two romances to share with you today..enjoy and stick around for a cup of mocha coffee! Today I am sharing One Tiny Lie by K.A. Tucker and Outlander by Diana Gabolden.

Outlander
Outlander
by Diana Gabolden
Series: Outlander #1
Publisher: Recorded Books
Publication date: July 13, 2006 (originally published 1991)
Genre: Historical Fantasy Romance
Purchase: Amazon

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon–when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach–an “outlander”–in a Scotland torn by war and raiding Highland clans in the year of Our Lord…1743.Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life…and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire…and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives

“Sassenach” is the sexiest term of endearment I have ever heard, “aye it is”. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is one of the greatest books I have ever had the pleasure to listen too. The story some 800 plus pages long is a time traveling historical novel that left me breathless. Gabaldon’s world-building is beyond spectacular as she takes us from 1945 to worn torn Scotland in  1743. Brilliantly detailed she brought Claire Randall’s journey to life. I feel in love with a highlander named James Fraser. He is a young Scots warrior with a kind soul who made me laugh, cry and swoon.

Quotes from Jamie that made me swoon:

“Oh, aye, Sassenach. I am your master . . . and you’re mine. Seems I canna possess your soul without losing my own.”

“And I mean to hear ye groan like that again. And to moan and sob, even though you dinna wish to, for ye canna help it. I mean to make you sigh as though your heart would break, and scream with the wanting, and at last to cry out in my arms, and I shall know that I’ve served ye well.”

“I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have.”

One Tiny Lie
One Tiny Lie
by K.A. Tucker
Series: Ten Tiny Breaths #2
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
Publication date: June 11, 2013
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Purchase: Amazon

Livie has always been the stable one of the two Cleary sisters, handling her parents’ tragic death and Kacey’s self-destructive phase with strength and maturity. But underneath that exterior is a little girl hanging onto the last words her father ever spoke to her. “Make me proud,” he had said. She promised she would…and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action. Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton? As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows

I adored K.A. Tucker’s Ten Tiny Breaths and so it is no surprise that I fell in love with One Tiny Lie. The tale shares Livie’s story and I identified with her on so many levels. I tend to feel people’s emotions, and focus on their needs and Livie is a sensitive soul. It was delightful seeing her find herself, take chances and not plan every moment. I love bad boys who are really just lost and troubled souls and Ashton made me cringe, swoon and feel. Tucker has this talent for peeling back her character’s layers and exposing their tender hearts. While her characters are troubled, I adore that she surrounds them with strong characters, shows their noble sides and includes professional help. This was a touchingly sweet romance and I quickly consumed it.

Fabulous coffee pot reviews, my friend! Love the swoony quotes from Outlander. You know I adored One Tiny Lie, and I agree completely with your thoughts. That series just keeps getting better and better. Awesome reviews!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ah Jamie..he can talk to me all day with that Scottish brogue.

  2. Jennifer

I’ve had Ten Tiny Breaths on my Kindle (from Netgalley) forever now and still have not read it. I began the first chapter and it sounded amazing, but I then got burn out, so put it down. I totally need to pick it up again so I can read number 2!

  3. Terri M. LeBlanc

I loved Outlander. It is one of the books I recommend to lots of my friends when they say they are looking for something to read. It’s got a little bit of everything! Are you going to watch the new series based on the novel coming out this spring?

  4. Dani

Sigh… Outlander is one of those books I never finished. In fact I couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters. For some reason it just did not do it for me. 🙁

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh no, it happens it is very detailed and not one you can read in a few hours..but I devour those details like crack..hehehe

  5. Sherrey Meyer

Love the concept of your Coffee Pot Reviews! Certainly must save some time as opposed to the longer reviews we all seem to do. Read Outlander some time ago (before retirement when I commuted by bus!) but haven’t read the other book. Sounds like one I’d enjoy. Thanks for such great, coffee pot brewing time reviews.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Sherrey and I am glad you enjoyed Outlander and my coffee pot reviews 🙂

  6. Sharon - Obsession with Books

I have heard great things about Diana Gabaldon’s series; I really enjoyed Ten Tiny Breaths but I’ve been hesitant about the sequel because of the cheating aspect. I’m pleased you enjoyed these Kimba 🙂

    Lovely reviews!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I didn’t really consider it cheating, no commitments were made, she was simply dating two men non exclusive.

  7. Aurian

It has been many years ago when I read this series (Outlander). I think I stopped with book 6 though, I really fell out of love with them.
The other book, not really appealing to me.

  8. Laurie

I love your Coffee Pot Reviews! I read Outlander a zillion years ago when I was nursing my newborn son (who is almost 17 now ugh!) and fell completely in love with the story but I could never get into the sequels. I’m looking forward to your thoughts on them.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Well bummer on the sequels but I can see that they have enormous shoes to fill.

  9. Christa

I read Outlander way back before I was a blogger and absolutely loved it. Jamie makes my heart melt every time. I can’t wait for the show to start.

  10. A Voracious Reader

I tried for a year-and-a-half to read Outlander but could never seem to fit it in more than a chapter here and there. So decided to listen to it. 29% in and I’m finally past where I stopped reading, but everyone loves this book and I’m…bored. I’m having a really hard time with it and the thought that I have 20 more disks is just…*sigh*.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Awe, well not every book touches everyone but I loved this from page one 🙁

  11. Michelle

Oh! I enjoyed reading the first two books of Ten Tiny Breaths series by K.A. Tucker. Love them! So glad you enjoyed reading One Tiny Lie. 🙂

  12. Michaela

K.A. Tucker is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I can currently reading her Casual Enchantments series but I can’t wait to start Ten Tiny Breaths! Great review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I need to check out that series, but first I need to read and review her next book in this series 🙂

  13. Heidi

Aye yes… I read Outlander Before the blog and it was a treat. Book two didn’t grab as much and sadly I haven’t continued the series, one of these days.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh I will have to see what my experience is with book two. 🙂

  14. Giselle

This reminds me I have to read One Tiny Lie! I enjoyed book but – though I didn’t love it like many others, but the characters were compelling and I’m curious to see what it goes from there it sounds like a solid sequel!

  15. precious mae

I haven’t read the Outlander series but it has been in my TBR list for eons now.

I loved the Ten Tiny Breaths series. 🙂

  16. Christy

    *sigh* Those quotes …

It’s been so long since I’ve read Outlander, and now I want to read it again.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I plan to read my book copy of it a little each night 🙂

  17. Lauren

So glad to hear you enjoyed Outlander on audio because I’m thinking of doing a big catch up on audio since the books are absolute bricks. 🙂 One Tiny Lie sounds great too, I’ll have to check it out. Lovely coffee pot minis!

    • kimbacaffeinate

It was wonderful, although I own the book and plan to read it through as well 🙂

  18. Melissa (Books and Things)

OMG! I so need to try Outlander in audio. I love that story. This is what I keep telling authors… we are FINE with 800 pages of bliss and no cliffies. 😀

I do need to try that Tiny Breaths series. Hm… now you have me even more curious. *shakes fist* 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

I love big books, and every sentence every word was wonderful!

  19. Michelle

I really need to read Outlander. I own it, but the size of it makes it hard to find an open spot in my huge TBR list.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I recommend reading one chapter each night before bed, and trust me you will become caught up and never regret it. It is less intimidating that way. Now me..I like Big Books..hehe

  20. Lily B

i am so intimidated by outlander, but i know a lot that liked it! the book is so long but i heard it was amazing and the writing is worth it. So i hope to find time for it. Really want to read One Tiny Lie!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I recommend reading a chapter a night. Read other books like normal, but each night read one chapter of Outlander and before ya know it, you will slip in and it will take over your life!!!

  21. Tanja

Wow Outlander sounds like something else. I have never seen it before but the whole idea sounds so good. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and maybe one day I’ll get to read it. I’m so happy you enjoyed One Tiny Lie but I gave up on that series. Great reviews, Kim 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thank you Tanja, I think it released in 1992? It is so worth the read 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

thanks, I usually do them on books that have been out for a while.

  22. Candace

Was that your first time ‘reading’ Outlander? I haven’t listened to the audio but I LOVE the series! I think Voyager is my favorite book in the series.
I didn’t love Ten Tiny Breaths so I wasn’t planning on reading the next book. But I’m a little curious to see where things go with Livie.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, I have had the book for a while but never read it..I loved it!

  23. Kristin

At first I was surprised you did a Coffee Pot review for Outlander and then I thought about it… What more can you say about a “classic” huh? And I’m glad you enjoyed One Tiny Lie – have you read the next one yet?? I’ve been sitting on it… waiting to savor it 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I really felt I couldn’t add anything new and decided to give you the Feels and swoon version..hehehe. I have book three and will be reading it for review soon. 🙂

  24. Melissa's Eclectic Bookshelf

I really fell for Ashton 🙂 Tucker really does do a great job with all of her characters. I can’t wait to read book 3.

And I’ve had Outlander on my shelf for a few years now…I really need to make time for it…Everyone raves about it!

    • kimbacaffeinate

You won’t regret reading it Melissa, it is memorable 🙂

  25. Nicci

I have on hand a copy I purchased in 1992. The pages have turned yellow. I still haven’t read the book yet. Will do so before Outlander airs on the TV.

  26. Stephanie

Both of these sound great and I love the cover for One Tiny Lie. I have to say you can get a lot done while a pot of coffee is brewing! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

thanks Stephanie..it’s 12 cup pot of coffee and I have UBB:)

  27. Braine Talk Supe

I had one author who guested in TS and she was raving about Outlander. Our library has all the books & I’ve scheduled a binge in March so there will be a week where I’ll be curled up with Gabaldon. LOL

  28. Kim

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander is truly epic, and it still gives my heart flutters when I think about it! It’s been a long time since I read it (I think I was in my twenties) and this book has stood the test of time- I still remember all the *feels* I got from it. Glad you loved it too, Kimba. 🙂

  29. Pamela D

I read Outlander last year and really enjoyed it, although it was not all fun and love like I expected! I plan to read the rest of the series soon.

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is one of the things I loved Pamela..it was like I went there and experienced all of it.

  30. Berls

Yay! I’m so glad you loved Outlander! I pretty much gobbled up Dragonfly in Amber too. I had to give myself a bit of a break with Voyager – too much emotion! But I really hope to get back to it soon. (BTW – I can’t believe you managed to get an 800 page book into a coffee pot review LoL!)

One Little Lie sounds really good – it sounds like a stand alone but your mention of Ten Tiny Breaths made me wonder how important reading order is. I guess I need to go check them out!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Ya know I thought about doing a full review, but everything can be said has, and so I decided to give ya all the FEELS version.

  31. Jenea

Outlander sounds really good, but wow it sounds like a big book. One Tiny Lie wasn’t one that I enjoyed immensely but I am looking forward to reading Four Seconds to Lose. Great reviews.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am excited for the final book two, and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t hold the power that book one did.

  32. Loupe Duffy

Awww! I’d have been here earlier to read your review of Outlander, lovely review BTW, but my internet was out 🙁
I’m so thrilled you loved the book!!! And yes, you’re right, right about everything you said. That’s one of my favorite quotes!
I listened to Ten Tiny Breaths, and I really enjoyed it, I need to get the next book right away, I’m glad it’s good too.

    Thank you Kimba, great reviews!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

One night I feel asleep listening to it,..my hubby woke me up to get me to take headphones off, and I start talking like Claire..hehehe. I so loved every minute of it!

      • Lupdilup

That makes me really happy, it’s a book thing, I know you understand 🙂

  33. Jenny

YAY! So glad you loved Outlander Kim! I’m counting the days until it finally airs on Starz, I can’t wait to see them bring it to life. And of course hear Jamie speak in his accent for the first time. Yes, please:)

    • kimbacaffeinate

thank you Sherry, very different books but both were enjoyable 🙂

  34. Silvia

Those are new titles to me and I’m surprised to find myself intrigued by One Tiny Line the most… You would have bet I’d go with the historical fantasy romance, huh? Yeah, me too! 😛
    Both lovely reviews, Kimberly!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am really delighted that I read it Felicia, I have heard that some people stopped because the wait between books was so long.

  35. kindlemom1

Ahhh good ole Jamie Frazier, I love him, I love this series. I still haven’t read the last book (well, I started it and then stopped when I found out it would be 3 years before the next book would come out!). I have heard that the next book will finally be out soon so I may have to pick this series back up although if I am being honest with myself, as much as I love Jamie, this series really could have ended about books ago and still been wonderful.

    • kimbacaffeinate

He makes me swoon, hmm I need to look and see how many books there are and decide to whether to do audio or not. I also own the book. LOL

  36. Nick

I’ve heard so many good things about Outlander, Kim and your enthusiasm for it is contagious. Those quotes are swoon-worthy for sure.

I had a hard time with One Tiny Lie because of all the cheating, but I’m glad you liked it, Kim.

    Lovely reviews!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah it surprised me, I didn’t like it as much as book one, but she still made me feel

  37. Mary

I’m definitely in the minority in that I didn’t *love* Outlander, though I did enjoy it. Maybe the build-up was too much for me.

  38. Kimberly

YAY!!! You finally read…well listened to Outlander!! I’m kind of in love with Jamie (to the point that Darren get’s jealous). Are you going to continue the series? I’m about to start book 4 🙂 Just warning you though, books 2 and 3 were emotional rollercoasters but completely amazing just the same.
