Share the joys, heartbreaks, challenges and triumphs of the people who inhabit the small Oregon town of Thunder Point with #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr. With its breathtaking vistas and down-to-earth people, Thunder Point is the perfect place for FBI agent Laine Carrington to recuperate from a gunshot wound and contemplate her future. The locals embraced Laine as one of their own after she risked her life to save a young girl from a dangerous cult. Knowing her wounds go beyond the physical, Laine hopes she'll fit in for a while and find her true self in a town that feels safe. She may even learn to open her heart to others, something an undercover agent has little time to indulge. Eric Gentry is also new to Thunder Point. Although he's a man with a dark past, he's determined to put down roots and get to know the daughter he only recently discovered. When Laine and Eric meet, their attraction is obvious to everyone. But while the law enforcement agent and the reformed criminal want to make things work, their differences may run too deep unless they take a chance on each other and find that deep and mysterious bond that belongs to those who choose love over fear

Every time I travel back to Thunder Point I fall a little more in love with this Oregon town and The Chance delivered all of the heart-warming things I adore about small-town settings. Each book in this series can be read as a standalone but I recommend starting at the beginning. Mini review: a touching tale that shares a romance and the lives of several key characters.

FBI agent, Laine Carrington, decides to come to Thunder Point to recuperate and reassess after her last undercover assignment left her with a gunshot wound to her shoulder. Eric Gentry is also a relative newcomer to Thunder Point and is determined to get to know his daughter and lay down some roots. Can a reformed criminal and FBI agent discover something more? ….The tale that unfolds shares multiple threads and a delightful romance.

Carr shares with us characters that are flawed and just trying to make their way in this road trip called life and with each novel we get more depth regarding the folks nestled in this small sea side town. We met Eric previously, and the town has welcomed him with open arms after a few bumps. He is a good man who made a mistake and was dealt a bad deck of cards, but chooses to look forward, and I admired him. We met Laine briefly, and I was delighted when Carr brought her into the fold. She is struggling with some issues, and yet she is confident and determined. The chemistry between them was sweet, laced with humor and built slowly. Al a wanderer, with a good soul and painful past shows up to work for Eric and is impacted by the town and its people. Justin a high school student who works at Eric’s auto body shop was one of my favorite threads. We also see a softer more vulnerable side of Rae Ann, and I enjoyed it.

The Chance was a feel good tale that touched on some serious issues while further solidifying our ties to Thunder Point. We get updates on previous characters and meet new ones. While this has a romance that is threaded throughout the tale, it is more about the people who reside here. I love how Carr touches on issues that touch your soul like illness, and the fate of three young men. The romance had a slow burning chemistry with low angst that I enjoyed. While not as heated as I would have liked Carr makes it all feel genuine.

Fans of small-town series will delight in The Chance and find themselves longing to return to Thunder Point. The next book, The Promise will release in June and promises the story of Scott Grant, a windowed doctor with two small children.

I’ve really enjoyed some of her books from the Virgin River series. Love the ones where she focuses just on the main couple. So good!

I’ve still got a few to go. My favorite was Virgin River Christmas. And yeah I sobbed in that one. She really is good. Whew!

        • kimbacaffeinate

The Christmas books got me in the holiday spirit each year and I loved the lighting of the tree..le sigh

Oh, good! I can’t WAIT to finally read this one and I’m relieved to see that you weren’t disappointed by it. I have so much love for Thunder Point and these characters. Eric I already love, and Laine was amazing in the previous book. I’m also anxious to reunite with everybody else.
    Lovely review!

Aw, I love small town settings! This book sounds very cute. I have seen this author’s books in stores, but I’ve never really paid attention to them. After reading this review I may have to give them a shot sometime, though, they sound really cozy and lovely.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I adore this author and you really do become a part of her small-towns. Her Virgin River series is one I recommend again and again.

I’ve been thinking about reading these because it’s a small OREGON town, especially. I live on the border of WA and OR, so OR is considered home to me too. I’ll have to watch for these at the bookstore.

I love the Thunder Point series and finished The Chance as soon as I got it from Netgalley. Like the previous commenter I did not like the first Robyn Carr book I read and did not plan to ever read another. Then I listened to a Virgin River book and got hooked. Now I have read the entire Virgin River series and all of the Thunder Point books. I loved your review. I agree with everything you say. One difference I love slow burn romance and this one was just right.

    • kimbacaffeinate

    • kimbacaffeinate

This is such a fun, warm series and each time I visit I feel like the town becomes a part of me. I love that about Carr, she continues to flesh out characters and they aren’t all glamours and perfect..they are your neighbors.
