Maggie Carpenter is ready for a change— and to leave her ordinary life in South Carolina behind. But when she accepts a scholarship to the International School in London, a university attended by the privileged offspring of diplomats and world leaders, Maggie might get more than she bargained for. When Maggie meets Hugh, a twentysomething British guy, she finds herself living the life she always wanted. Suddenly she’s riding around the city in a Ferrari, wearing borrowed designer clothes and going to the hottest clubs. The only problem? Another guy, the one she can’t seem to keep her hands off of. Half French, half Lebanese, and ridiculously wealthy, Samir Khouri has made it clear he doesn’t do relationships. He’s the opposite of everything Maggie thought she wanted…and he’s everything she can’t resist. Torn between her dream guy and the boy haunting her dreams, Maggie has to fight for her own happy ending. In a city like London, you never know where you stand, and everything can change in the blink of an eye.

My Favorite Caffeinated Beverages: Starbucks Americanos and Diet Coke

I’m a total caffeine addict. Three years of law school made me dependent and writing has only made it worse. I have two big caffeine vices—Starbucks Americanos and Diet Coke.

I’m one of those writers who works better when I’m able to write in public. For me that usually means coffee shops. Living in South Korea I tend to write in Starbucks. I’m a total creature of habit so I always order the exact same thing when I go to Starbucks—a Grande Americano with Skim Milk. It’s gotten so bad that when I go in now I don’t even have to say my order, they just ring it up without me talking. It’s a little embarrassing 🙂 I like the Americano because it’s basic and gets the job done. I’m not a big fan of the taste of coffee—it’s more of a necessity—so I tend to want something simple and classic.

My other big caffeine vice is Diet Coke. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I know it’s bad for me, have heard all of the horror stories. I’ll go months without having any and then I’ll start drinking it again. Living overseas is a great Diet Coke detox, though. When I lived in London it was difficult to find Diet Coke. Instead, they had Coca-Cola Light, which I am not a fan of. It’s similar here in Korea. I’m a purist so it’s Diet Coke or nothing for me 🙂

How about you, what are some of your favorite caffeinated beverages?

Just thinking about diet coke puts that taste in my mouth. Total YUCK! Though strangely enough, I get that whole addiction thing to it, it’s like after one sip you need more. Even though I think it’s nasty. It’s weird. Any soda is like that, but if I’m going to drink it I would go for Root Beer.
I am a coffee drinker. My drink of choice is a salted caramel mocha. 🙂 YUM.

ooh salted caramel mocha..bring it!! I do like root beer and will on occasion drink a A&W vanilla root beer but coffee is the way I ride!

You are quite welcome Chanel. I do not drink caffeinated soda, as you can guess coffee is my drug of choice and I have no intention of ever giving it up..hehehe!

my Mom would get up and crack open a diet pepsi..LOL My grandfather is the one who introduced me to coffee..and I will be forever grateful.

    • kimbacaffeinate

My Mom was a cola drinker too, I love straight up coffee the most but will indulge in the fancy ones occasionally.

I had to give up caffeine about 12 years ago, so my drink of choice (other than water) is either herbal or decaffeinated tea. (Decaf coffee doesn’t agree with me either, darn it.) Recently, I’ve been drinking a lot of decaf Chai or Celestial Seasons’ Cinnamon Apple Spice herb tea. Something about the spicy warmth is just perfect for this cold weather.

But I have to admit, when I smell coffee, I miss it.

Oh no, no, no…My doctor and I have an understanding..I will eat seaweed, grass etc but coffee stays. I know some peeps who cannot handle the caffeine but I can drink a cup and go to sleep. And decaffeinated …ugh I would rather drink motor oil.

      • Lark

I love Earl Grey! Also Irish Breakfast and English Breakfast. Luckily, I can buy all three already decaffeinated (though there is actually a way to decaffeinate black tea yourself.) I also like peppermint, when I’m in the right mood. And chamomile is good and calming.

I gave up pop or soda depending on what you call it 6 years ago but I still crave it. I’m a big coffee and tea drinker though.

I love this post! I See London sounds fabulous — what a great excerpt! I enjoyed the caffeine talk very much! I like Diet Coke; but I confess, my addiction is with Diet Dr. Pepper — I know, I know… I think I’m the only person in the world that loves the stuff! Thank you so much for the giveaway and the wonderful post. Best wishes to Chanel!

My daughter does the Dew too, but limits herself to one a day..LOL I am glad you were drawn to the blog title and hope you check out I See London

Thank you! One of my closest law school friends was a HUGE Mountain Dew fan. She swore it got her through all of the lectures and reading 🙂

What a fun post Kim! I’m such a caffeine addict too! I love starbucks and always order the same things. Cinnamon Dolce Latte if I’m in the mood for a warm drink and Iced Tazo Chai Latte, if I’m in the mood for a cold drink. I love the atmosphere at Starbucks, and can see how she can get a lot of writing done there.

I’m a total caffeine addict…to the point where if I don’t drink a ton I completely skip the hyper part, I just crash. I’m a Coca-cola girl, if I can find it I’ll drink it. One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says they have Coke and pours me a glass of Pepsi, it doesn’t taste the same! I can tell! Lol, I also love the Salted Caramel Mocha and the White Chocolate Mocha at Starbucks. I’ve even managed to get my boyfriend addicted to them. 😛

I have got to try this Salted Caramel Mocha..i have never had one. 🙂

    • Chanel Cleeton

Yes! The White Chocolate Mocha is AMAZING 🙂 It’s one of my favorite holiday drinks but I usually save it for special occasions.

    • kimbacaffeinate

:blinks: just water? Well on the upside it is very healthy and you won’t suffer cravings in a post-apocalyptic world.
