In this electrifying sixty-page companion novella to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, discover the fate of the Omega Point rebels as they go up against The Reestablishment. Set during and soon after the final moments of Unravel Me, Fracture Me is told from Adam's perspective. As Omega Point prepares to launch an all-out assault on The Reestablishment soldiers stationed in Sector 45, Adam's focus couldn't be further from the upcoming battle. He's reeling from his breakup with Juliette, scared for his best friend's life, and as concerned as ever for his brother James's safety. And just as Adam begins to wonder if this life is really for him, the alarms sound. It's time for war. On the battlefield, it seems like the odds are in their favor—but taking down Warner, Adam's newly discovered half brother, won't be that easy. The Reestablishment can't tolerate a rebellion, and they'll do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam has ever cared about. Fracture Me sets the stage for Ignite Me, the explosive finale in Tahereh Mafi's epic dystopian series. It's a novella not to be missed by fans who crave action-packed stories with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu.

It is no secret that I have mad love for this author and the Shatter Me series. I don’t often purchase all of the side novellas for series I adore, but made exceptions for this series. Until now, I have not been disappointed. Fracture Me is told from Adam’s perspective, and it left me disappointed. Mini review: character exposed, short yet kept me on edge and advanced the overall story arc.

Fracture Me picks up right where Unravel Me left off as Omega Point launches an attack against Sector 45 and the Reestablishment. The tale is told from Adam’s perspective. He shares his thoughts regarding his relationship with Juliette and his concerns for his brother James. As they enter into battle we are privy to his innermost thoughts, what he observes and how he reacts. While only sixty-two pages in length Mafi does an excellent job of giving Adam voice and advancing the plot.

If Mafi’s intentions were to draw a line in the sand regarding the love triangle involving Warner and Adam, then she was successful. Being inside Adam’s head led to startling revelations regarding his character. To be frank, she took the swoon right out of him; at least for this reader. View Spoiler » This isn’t to say Warner is perfect, but he pushes Juliette to be her best.

The overall storyline for the series progressed in Fracture Me and I am anxious to see how everything falls into place. It will be interesting to see how folks react to Ignite Me. I am particularly curious about reactions from those who have read Destroy Me from Warner’s perspective and Fracture Me from Adam’s against those who have only read the full-length novels.

See I’m always up on the fence on whether to buy the novellas. I love short stories so obviously I love reading short fiction but I guess I hate it when I have to pay 99 cents to 2.99 for a single piece of short fiction when i can buy an entire book of them for the price of a normal book and get 20 to 30 stories. It just seems wrong to me. I do like reading the shorts on Tor.com those are free and a lot of big name authors put their stuff on there.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Usually I skip them and totally agree about the price. Now Destroy Me was epic, and I think I read that after Ignite Me releases the novellas will be bundled.

I’m still reading Warner’s book (had to put him on hold) because everyone said I MUST read his story, especially since I like an anti-hero. So now I’m totally curious about Sweet Adam. I can’t wait to catch up with you on this series Kimba. Wonderful review (skipped the spoiler)! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

This is definitely worth the read especially for the plot reveals. I adored Destroy Me and loved Warner but as you said Sweet Adam. This book will help you decide.

  3. Lindy

I haven’t read this series yet, but have heard that it as fabulous! I’m sorry to hear you were disappointed 🙁 It’s especially disappointing when you love a series so much, and all the other books in the series have been great. Hopefully, the next book in the series will be better!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Thanks Lindy, I was sadden by Adam but this series is one of my favorites 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Big things happen in this little novella. I am sure she will mention them in Ignite Me.

  4. Pamela D

I am sorry to hear that this novella wasn’t as strong as the rest of the series.

If you are wary of purchasing series novellas, if you library has Overdrive, you might want to see if they have the novellas. I have been pleasantly surprised that my library has been getting a lot of the popular series’ novellas. In fact, my library has this series’ novellas. I mention it just because $0.99 novellas can add up quickly! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Good to know, this was 2.99..LOL I usually hesitate because a lot of them are fluff. This particular series has not been, instead I think they add to the tale.

  5. Sam

I know a lot of Adam fans have been disappointed with this novella. Which scares me, as I am one myself. Although I like Warner’s character, I can’t picture him as a love interest. Anyway, this isn’t available in the UK, but I’m looking forward to seeing how everyone reacts to Ignite Me too. Great review, Kimba!

    • kimbacaffeinate

After Destroy Me I really go into Warner, but still though Adam was a sweet guy..so yeah I am over him..LOL

  6. Nyx

I was never an Adam fan, and this novella just proved to be what I had thought of Adam’s character before. His love for Juliette always felt incredibly needy and just wrong. While Warner may not be all nice and perfect, he is perfect for Juliette. She needs someone that will challanege her and push her along instead of always cuddling her and treating her like she is in a damn glass bubble or something.

  7. Michelle

I really want to read this and I almost clicked that little spoiler link…because I want to know! I’m not really an Adam fan so I’m not sure how much I’ll like it but I feel like I should attempt to be fair. I read Warner’s so I should read his. Great review Kimba, I wish you had enjoyed it more though.

    • kimbacaffeinate

While I was leaning to team Warner, this really pushed me over the edge. It is worth the read for the plot line. I do think it is over priced at 2.99

  8. Candace

I haven’t grabbed this one yet but am glad to see a review to get an idea of what I might think. I think it’s necessary for me to see inside Adam’s head. I didn’t love him before but I had some conflicted feelings. I need to know what he’s thinking. I wish it was only .99cents though, I’m not fond of paying that much for a short story that doesn’t reveal that much more.

    • kimbacaffeinate

It should be .99 cents, it isn’t as substantial as Destroy Me

  9. Christa

I didn’t love Destroy Me and it actually took me forever to read it, despite it’s short length, because I was so disinterested in what was happening. So that experience makes me extremely hesitant to read this. Maybe I’ll just wait for Ignite Me

  10. Jenea

Ha! I knew my pick for Juliette was a good one. #TeamWarner. 🙂 Sorry it was a little disappointing. I like Adam and it is a shame it wasn’t a good side of him in this.

    • kimbacaffeinate

After Destroy Me I was basically #TeamWarner but still thought Adam was a nice guy and didn’t want to completely rule him out..but sheesh!

  11. kindlemom1

Okay I didn’t read all of this because I haven’t read the series yet but I am sorry you were disappointed in Adam and this novella. That is sometimes that bad thing about in between books in series, they can really add to the story or they can confuse and frustrate you.

    • kimbacaffeinate

What..you so need to read this series. I had to laugh I have been telling my oldest to read this series, and after two years she calls me and says, “OMG, Shatter Me is so good, why didn’t you demand I read it?” *rolls eyes* They never listen!!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Felicia I adore this series and her writing but hate Adam’s perspective.

  12. Mary

I’ve still only read the first book in this series and no novella so I’m feeling a bit out of the loop. I need to get in the loop! It’s pretty impressive that this author, in just 65 pages, de-swooned Adam. Because he’s pretty darned swoonable in the first book!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I have given every book aside from this one a five and been so happy, the Destroy Me novella was much longer and really added insight into the characters. While this was good I really hate the direction she took Adam. Ah well…TGIF

  13. Laura

I don’t usually read novellas ever. I think I’ve only read one in my life. I really really want to read this one though. I like Warner better though so I don’t know if I should read Destroy Me instead. I completely agree that Adam doesn’t treat Juliette like a woman but more like a girl. Maybe I’ll just read both!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Laura, after the release of Ignite me they are going to release Destroy Me and Fracture Me as one book. So wait! Destroy Me was so worth it.

    • kimbacaffeinate

to be honest I usually skip them, but her first side novella was long in length and amazing..

  14. Maja (The Nocturnal Library)

We’re review twins today! And I agree with your opinion on this, especially your spoiler! I was so disappointed in Adam, and I think Warner is the best choice for Juliette because he treats her as his equal in all things.
I have no idea where this is going (except towards certain heartbreak), but I can hope for the best.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Sweet review twins..and I am glad I wasn’t the only one to feel this way. I loved Warner in Destroy Me, but was still on the fence..not anymore. I resent paying 2.99 for this as well, but that is a whole other discussion..LOL
