Meet the furry big brother that the Wird sisters never had… Bren is a cocky, brash hound of a werewolf who loathes the idea of belonging to Aric’s pack—much less finding a mate. But Bren’s hotheaded behavior lands him in the doghouse when he defies Aric’s authority in front of his pack, bringing up a sore subject that’s bound to make the Alpha wolf’s blood boil… Luckily for him, no one can stay mad at Bren and his wild charm for long. And when some frightening ghosts launch a hostile paranormal takeover, Bren will team up with Celia to take down the evil ghouls before they hurt someone they both love… Includes a preview of the upcoming Weird Girls novel Cursed by Destiny!

Are you reading the Weird Girl series by Cecy Robson? You should be!  This is a wickedly good, action-packed; make you pull your hair out urban fantasy. It is a story I cannot get enough of. I am usually not a fan of all the little side novellas in a series. In truth, I normally skip them. That did not stop me from scooping up, A Cursed Moon, and consumed it in a single sitting. I read this for the simple fact that I cannot get enough of this world and its characters. Ok, *rolls eyes* maybe the snarky, sexy, misunderstood, loyal, lone wolf, Bren had a little something to do with it. What? Don’t look at me like that. He is hot, and Robson really peeled back his layers with A Cursed Moon. I adored Bren, and I want more!

A Cursed Moon takes place between the last book A Cursed Embrace and before the next book Cursed By Destiny, which releases January 7th, 2014. It focuses on Bren. He is a lone wolf and the Celia’s best friend. I was immediately drawn into the story, despite the feeling of forced humor in the first few pages. Robson got her groove on and totally delivered fleshing out Bren. She left subtle clues as to where the series is heading, and offered some creep-tastic battle scenes with supernatural creatures, and a little old lady. The story had suspense, danger, humor, and a few brilliant twists. Favorite characters make an appearance and enhance this story. I laughed and cried as I read this tale. I closed A Cursed Moon having a solid understanding of Bren, making me one seriously happy fangirl.

A Cursed Moon is for the fans. Despite being a short tale it did not feel rushed, and added to the overall Weird Girls series. I would recommend you read this before Cursed by Destiny.

This is definitely a series I’m looking forward to reading! I’m so glad you liked this one, Kimba. Wonderful review!

  2. Silvia

I heard such good things about this series and now here you are with a fab review for the novella! I SO love when a short story gets to you with the same power of a full novel. I’ll definitely try to make room for this one, too! 😉

  3. sharonda

I’ve read the 1st book in the series. Its was good, It took me a while to like Cecelia though 🙂
    Great review Kim

Sounds like anice series that I’ve been missing. Will check the other books but I love when the novellas are important to the story. Great Review!

I have a little confession to make. I just read book 1 and I am not 100% sure how I feel about it. Omg, I don’t think I like Aric. I really liked Bren so I am glad to hear he has a little novella. Too bad he wasn’t more in book 1 🙁

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yeah Aric can make me a little cray-cray. It is hard to understand pack mentality sometimes. We get more Bren throughout the rest of the series, and Aric will grow on you..LOL

Wasn’t this a fabulous novella? Cecy really knows how to write them! I just adore this series, every single character is just amazing and the boys all drool worthy.

It was so nice getting inside Bren’s head, even for a little bit. I loved seeing how he sees Celia and the girls.

Nice review Kimba. I love Bren. Bren has such a great personality. I do love this series. I think Bren was the perfect character for this novella. I think he should get another book of his own. I will be reading Cursed by Destiny soon.

Bren is an awesome narrator right? He needs a spin-off or something, I do love his wry outlook on things. And Mrs. Mancuso never fails to make me LOL! I’m convinced she’s otherworldly, she’s scary.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Oh my she is cray-cray but I love reading about her interactions with them all. Yes a spin-off would be awesome 🙂

  9. Jenea

I have the first two books on my shelf, I need to find the time to be able to read them and soon. Bren does sounds one hot mess of a man. 😉

“action-packed; make you pull your hair out urban fantasy” Ummmm, yeah. I think I have been missing out apparently. I shall rectify this.

OMG yes Jennifer, I think you would like this series and I am quite confident I will not hear the words, “I was bored”

This is a series I just haven’t found time to check out yet but have had on the list for ages! Everyone I know that’s read it has just loved it. Good to know she can really make a novella work too!
