Amaliya Vezorak always believed she was destined to live a failed life in obscurity until she was brutally murdered by an ancient vampire named The Summoner and reborn as a powerful vampire necromancer. Now it is up to her to save the world…

Pretty When She Destroys was an exciting, powerful conclusion to the Pretty When She Dies series by Rhiannon Frater. I love Frater’s dark and gritty take on paranormal romance and the fleshed out, vibrant and fresh characters she creates. I devoured this and was sad to say goodbye to this trilogy. Three-word review: action-packed, awesome and addicting!

The plot picks up right where Pretty When She Kills ends and brings us back together with Amaliya, Cain and their gang of friends and family. The Summoner is back with plans to close the veil between the living and the dead placing the Earth in eternal night. Amaliya and the others must stop him and the tale that unfolds is breathtaking and with action and snark.

Frater has created some of the most unique and fleshed out characters in a paranormal series to date. All of her characters have strong voices and opinions making them memorable. I friggin adore Amaliya our kick-ass vampire-necromancer, heroine. Cain is swoon-worthy, and I loved how despite wanting to protect Amaliya he respected that she was a total kick-ass and had unwavering confidence in her. Cain’s cabal is made up of such an eclectic and awesome array of supernatural abilities, and kick-ass hunters, that I am green with envy. They are so secure in their relationship, and the chemistry was hot. Cain and his daughter Cassandra had some moments, and I loved it. Aimee added to the tale, and I just adore her and Cass together. Biannca makes an unexpected appearance and ooh what a thread that is! Samantha continued to amazing me, and we see development in her relationship with Jeff. And may I just say dudes, Jeff is kick-ass. There is a little tension, thanks to one particular dog…lol.  The snark between him and Amaliya made things interesting. The Summoner is his usually creepy, self, and I loved to hate him.

Pretty When She Destroys was an intense, action-packed ride that wrapped up the ARC and left me in awe of Frater and her mad skills. From the characters to the fascinating thread regarding the veil, I was spellbound. The action-scenes and character’s abilities came to life as the pages turn. Frater’s ability to set me down in the middle of the scenes and bring it to life around me was incredible. I love how she allows each character to shine, or stumble, even the secondary characters. Cain’s cabal is such a “breakfast club” group, and I would love to go on more adventures with them. While I am sad to see this brilliant series come to an end, I am also excited to see what Frater brings us next.

Fans of the Pretty When She Dies series will be delighted with its conclusion in Pretty When She Destroys. A must read series for fans of dark vampires, necromancers, witches and other unique creatures wrapped in a suspenseful, action-packed plot.

I love paranormal romances because the story lines are often more complex and I like how they have more action and stronger heroines.

I’m really excited that this is just a trilogy and that it’s already over with great reviews, because I still need to start it. I was already planning on reading, but having just skimmed your review (trying hard to avoid spoilers for the other books) I know I have to read the trilogy. Great review!

  3. BookLady

I love paranormal romance because of the fantastic characters and awesome world-building.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I so agree, and that little bit of suspense and mystery 🙂

  4. Shaunesay

I just finished Pretty When She Dies and really liked it, so thanks for hosting Fraterfest, because that’s how I discovered her! 😀

    • kimbacaffeinate

Sweet Shaunsay, I am glad Fraterfest introduced you to the wonderfully dark mind of Frater! 😉

  5. Tabitha the Pabkins

If her characters are seriously that unique I really look forward to diving in. Though this cover…honestly freaks me out a bit haha

    • kimbacaffeinate

They are unique, and quite the array of powers and such. I love all of the covers in this series!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I do too, and love when they introduce rare ones 🙂 This series is a lot of fun even though it is dark and gritty at times 🙂

I like the dark, and the unknown of paranormal romances. The romance between an alpha shifter or vampire is so hot.The idea of a mate or soul mate is romantic. They now how to treat and please their mate or soul mate.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I believe in soul mates Terrie, and the chemistry and romance offset this dark tale perfectly.

  7. Denise Z

Paranormal romance adds that extra bit of oomph that opens a door for anything to happen. The unknown is the best bit of spice there is for the flavoring of my imagination.

    • kimbacaffeinate

This was a dark, gritty series, but the romance added just the right balance and I loved all the secondary characters. Good luck Denise!

  8. Christy

Apparently it was Pretty When She Destroys week for us. lol. I laughed so hard at the way Jeff took care of a certain problem. He gets shitz done! 😀

  9. Lauren

I can’t believe I haven’t read this series yet! Amaliya sounds like such a badass heroine, and Cain seems like a swoonworthy love interest. I love when the guy respects a girl’s strength and treats her like an equal, even if she’s in danger and he wants to protect her. Awesome review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I do too Lauren, and I hope you get to read these soon 🙂

    Thanks for reminding me!

I used to closely follow her blog, I really love her content, and since GReader shut down, I forgot about it til now.

Anyway, I’m not a big zombie reader and I read that her zombie series is good too. I might try that and RFrater just might manage to convert me.

Great minds think alike, you me and Christy today! I thought this was a great ending to the series and I loved seeing the maturation of the characters especially Samantha. Edward though kind of grossed me out…..

  14. Melissa (Books and Things)

I really like the darkness here. This sounds so thrilling. I have the first book I still need to dive into… and it looks like I need the next two books as well. Sometimes the last book is the weakest for me and this looks like it goes out with a bang. Sweet! 🙂

  21. Sarah M

I love paranormal romance just because! They typically involve overcoming some crazy roadblock, and it makes when they get together so much better. You root for the characters 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

That is one of the things I like about it too, and of course I like to believe in a little magic as well 🙂

  22. Tanja

My co-blogger Glass is a huge fan of this author and this series so I have her books on my to-read list for a while. I still haven’t had a chance to read them though. But I’ll have to. It sounds like a great story and powerful endings are always a win. Great review 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

  23. Jennifer Bielman

So, so happy it ended so powerfully. I was scared after the second book which wasn’t as strong as the first book for me. But I had a feeling Frater was going to pull out the stops for this one.

    • kimbacaffeinate

I thought it all came together nicely, and hope you enjoy it:)
