An alpha hero's attraction to the one woman he can't have could draw him into a killer's snare in the sizzling new novel from New York Times bestselling author Lori Foster. Charismatic bar owner Rowdy Yates isn't the kind of man women say no to. So when he approaches waitress Avery Mullins, he fully expects to get her number. However, the elusive beauty has her reasons for keeping her distance-including a past that might come back to haunt them both.Avery spends her nights working for tips...and trying to forget the secret Rowdy is determined to unearth. But when history threatens to repeat itself, Avery grows to rely on Rowdy's protective presence. As the sparks between them ignite, she will be forced to choose between the security she's finally found...and the passion she's always wanted.

Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres offering me a little mystery, some action and a side dish of romances with an HEA. Lori Foster and her Love Undercover series has been one of my recent favorites. Since the beginning I have been patiently waiting for Rowdy Yates tale. Getting Rowdy is hands down my favorite of the series to date and was soooo worth the wait! Rowdy Yates Is my new book boyfriend. Three word review: Hot, addicting, and a perfect read.

Rowdy is cleaning up his recently acquired bar. He has removed the darker elements, hired a cook and is still pursuing his now bartender Avery Mullins. Avery is ready to cave, but she isn’t ready to be another one night stand. As sexual tension mounts, a dark element from Avery’s past resurfaces and Rowdy is determined to protect her. The tale that unfolds was well paced, and deliciously hot. I found myself laughing, and swooning as the rest of the world slipped away.

We first met Rowdy in the first book, Run the Risk as he worked to protect his sister and I instantly fell in love with this bad boy. Forced to moved in grey areas of the law to protect his little sister he was a heartbreaker from day one. Rowdy can be a little rough around the edges, never gets too attached to woman, and uses one night stands to chase his own personal demons. He is a straightforward, no-nonsense type of guy wrapped in a package that will turn your knees to jelly and make you blush like a school girl when he meets your gaze..oh yeah I am in love. Beneath all this smexy, tough guy exterior is a sweet, damaged soul who fights for the underdog and has no idea he is falling in love with Avery. Avery is smart, feisty and a heroine you easily identify with. She is independent, won’t except anything less than she deserves and carries secrets from her past without burdening others. I loved how she slowly got Rowdy, and let him figure things out without overwhelming him. The romance was hot and slowly built from trust and friendship making it the most genuine romance in this series. Logan, Pepper, Alice and Reese all make appearances and further the tale. I loved getting updates on all of them. Marge and Dash make an appearance and Foster hints at the next book’s storyline. Yes I am drooling! We meet two new characters. A sexy young man, who has me oh so curious named Cannon. He cruises the streets at night cleaning up his neighborhood and a young boy who will melt your heart.

Unlike the other books in the Love Undercover series where the suspense element took center stage, Getting Rowdy focuses more on Rowdy and his growth. Foster really peeled back his layers, fleshing him out and exposing his raw, gooey center. Eep! While he is the focus there are several suspenseful threads woven into the tale that made the pacing perfect. They all felt genuine and kept me on edge. I could not put this book down! The romance was delicious and the love scenes were both hot and incredibly romantic. This was my favorite book of the series from the pacing to the characters. I found Avery’s secret, and the danger that comes from it, disturbing, and cannot help but be impressed by Avery. Each of the stories in the Love Under Cover series can be read as a standalone, but why you would want to miss out on any of these smexy alpha males and feisty, strong heroines?  So yeah, now I am falling asleep every night dreaming of being a bartender with benefits! I am anxious to see if Foster can shake Rowdy off the pedestal I have placed him on with the next man featured in this series. Although, a girl can never have too many book boyfriends!

Fans of romantic suspense with strong smexy alphas and independent, brave and feisty woman will thoroughly enjoy Getting Rowdy and the Love Undercover series. Foster is one of my favorite authors in the romantic suspense genre. Dash of Peril is the next book and will be released in late March of 2014.

My first requirement is for romance and a good romantic suspense like Lori writes is very exciting to read – they can keep me up late at night reading.

  13. Carolyn Valdez

I have not read this series but after reading your review I really need to put it on my TBR list.

  14. Kimberly

Love the cover, yummy. I enjoy romantic suspense because of the sexual tension and suspense makes for a real page turner. And book hangovers!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Agreed Kimberly, and not sure if you have read the previous book but book one is on sale for ereaders Run the Risk 1.99. Yep, book hangovers will occur!

  15. Christy

I really want to read these. I’ve seen them on NG, but never requested them… not sure why. I know you and some other bloggers love her books, so I need to just try them already.

  16. Heidi

I like romantic suspense because I like romance and suspense lame but hey what can I say… oh boy five cups of coffee and a new book boyfriend? Sounds like a book I need to read!

  17. Jenea

I stayed focused on the review and not the trailer. 😉 I do think this sounds like such a good one. Rowdy and Avery sounds great for one another. Wonderful review.

  18. Giselle

I already like the sounds of Rowdy he seems like the kind of guy I can really enjoy rooting for and swooning over! I’ll have to keep an eye out for this series! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

This is a great series Giselle, and I so recommend you start with book one.

  19. Melissa (Books and Things)

I enjoy her books so much and I’ve been wanting to get into this series. I’m not always a fan of her women characters, but Avery sounds like someone I would enjoy reading! Oh and thanks for that vid! Love that they focused on the man’s physique rather than the woman’s! WIN 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

I liked Avery she is smart, and determined. Heck yes that vid is yummy!

  20. Dani

I think I will have to go back and read those pervious books so I can get to know Rowdy better. Maybe once I do that I will like him better. 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Agreed we meet both Avery and Rowdy in the previous books so there is already something building there and I honestly fell in love with him in book one, he is such a softy wrapped up in all that toughness.

      • Sharon - Obsession with Books

I’m so pleased to see you enjoyed this Kimba 🙂 I’m a big fan of Lori Foster’s ‘Men who Walk the Edge of Honor’ series and I received an ARC of this one but I would really like to read the other books in the series first.

Rowdy sounds wonderful and I love a good romantic suspense so I’m glad this was done well.

        A great review! 🙂

        • kimbacaffeinate

thanks Sharon, I am anxious to read those as well 🙂

  21. Tawnya Bentley

I love all types of romance. Can’t get enough of any of them.

  22. Andrea

This is my first Lori Foster book and the first I’ve read from this series. I really enjoyed it, too! I’ve become a fast fan of Romantic Suspense, and can’t wait to read the other Love Undercover series.
    Great review!

    • kimbacaffeinate

Were you able to fall for Rowdy, not knowing about his sweet delicious past? I hope you go back and read the others. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres.

  23. Lark

Good review, Kimba! I can see why you enjoyed this book — it has a lot of the things you love!

  24. Ellen

I have been seeing this book everywhere and have been contemplating getting it, but already have so many to read. Your review has finally tipped the scales and I am going to have to get it. I read romantic suspense years ago, and only recently have picked it up again, and I really love it. Thanks for the giveaway.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Squee, I love this series Ellen, good luck in the giveaway!

  25. Candace

I really liked the suspense aspects in this one! I did like Rowdy as well but I hadn’t read the previous books, so maybe that’s why I wasn’t as ‘in love’ as you, I didn’t know him before. However, I still really liked him a lot. This was my first Lori Foster book and I’d definitely read more by her!

    • kimbacaffeinate

I agree, he can come off a little cocky in this one especially if you don’t know his background. I fell in love with him in the previous books and we also saw the beginning of his relationship with Avery in those books, which had me rooting for them.

  26. Jenny

AHHHHH! I need to read this asap Kim! I love all Lori Foster’s romantic suspense books (and her men), and I loved Rowdy in Run the Risk as well. Avery sounds like a fantastic heroine, and I can already feel that slow burn between them just from reading your review. SO GOOD. Off to buy this one!

  27. Lauren

Wow, this sounds awesome! I need to meet Rowdy, clearly, though I’m afraid I’m almost certainly going to fall head over heels for him and then have yet another unrequited book crush. 🙂 Lori Foster is totally killing it with this series! Glad to hear the other couples make an appearance in this one for old times sake. Great review! 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am loving the series and yes it isn’t hard to fall for Rowdy.

  28. kindlemom1

    Sounds like a great read!

I am seriously starting to think you pick the most yummy covers just to get my heart rate up in the mornings. 😉

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes, coffee and hot covers it gets you moving in the mornings!

  29. Mary

Why do I feel like I’ve heard that name before? *shakes head* Anyway, this one sounds FAB! Love his intense pose on the pool table (it would be so much better without a shirt, non?) and he sounds like just the kind of hero I fall hard for in books.

    • kimbacaffeinate

yes, shirtless would have been good, although that black shirt fits ever so nicely 🙂

  30. Silvia

I’ve always heard talking a lot about Lori Foster and her series and I’m really glad to see you enjoyed this book SO much!
    Great review, Kimberly!

  31. Jennifer Bielman

The title and cover alone is making my pant with want. I want this book bad. And with that review, come on, I can’t wait. Should I read the first books or can I just read this one by itself?

    • kimbacaffeinate

They do work as standalone, but you would miss seeing Rowdy from the get go, which is when I truly fell for him.

  32. Tanja

I haven’t heard of this series but that model on the cover – nice! I’m glad it’s not only visual as the characters here seem great. I’m glad you enjoyed this one 🙂 Great review.
