Rachel Gibson, New York Times bestselling author of Rescue Me, returns to Texas for the second of her Military Men series, with the tale of what happens when a tough guy meets his match--and falls harder than a ton of red-hot bricks. . .From Rachel Gibson, New York Times bestselling author of Rescue Me, comes her latest sexy contemporary novel, featuring a hot Navy SEAL and a woman on the run.

Run to You by Rachel Gibson is a standalone contemporary romance and the second novel in her Military Men series. Grab your cowboy boots, and get ready to enjoy this sweet little tale with smexy retired Marine, Beau Junger. Three word review: humorous, romantic and full of Texas charm.

Sadie Hollowell the heroine from Rescue Me, inherited her father’s ranch after he died and discovered he had an illegitimate child. Somewhere out there she has a sister. Vince her boyfriend, enlists the help of Blake a former Navy Seal buddy and his twin brother Beau to locate her. Beau finds Stella, working in a bar in south Florida and the tale that unfolds is full of witty banter, a little danger, some hot moments and the sweetest romance.

Gibson’s characters are fleshed out and easily likable. Stella is tough, sassy, and smart. I instantly liked this twenty-eight year old virgin. I know! Don’t roll your eyes, I was nervous too but she is only a virgin in the biblical sense and has plenty of experience with the other bases! Her life hasn’t been easy, but she holds her head high and rolls with the punches. Beau is approaching forty, and has been reevaluating his life style. He wasn’t thrilled about the events that unfolded, mostly because he found Stella attractive and she kept making him want to break his own rules. This made him moody but deliciously handsome as Stella unintentionally pushed all of his buttons. It was fun watching their relationship develop. I wouldn’t call this insta-love as the relationship began from annoyance and bickering which I quite enjoyed. Beau’s interaction with his twin brother was funny, and gave us a glimpse into their childhood and antics. There were some villains who helped further the plot and characters from the previous book, but I did not feel lost.

While the plot for Run to You was predictable the characters made the tale come to life providing me a wonderful afternoon escape. I enjoyed the banter; the silly nicknames and watching Beau fight with his conscience. As Beau and Stella traveled across country to Texas, we got to know them, even making a stop at Beau’s family home. The point of view switches back and forth making us privy to their thoughts. This is  something I am coming to love in my romance novels. It helped me understand the characters and form attachments. There is a suspenseful thread woven into this contemporary romance that kept things interesting. The tale wraps up nicely and I am curious about the other characters and their stories.

If you are looking for a fast, fun, smexy read then Run to You will provide the perfect afternoon escape. I look forward to reading more of Rachel Gibson’s contemporary romances.

This sounds like a fun romance, and even if it’s predictable, I’m glad to see it’s not insta-love and that you enjoyed the relationship progression. Definitely going on my beach read list (which basically is just my guilty pleasure list :D). Great review!

I met Rachel Gibson last year and she is delightful. I have tried a few of her books and they were all pretty decent. None of them really wow’d me but make super pool reads 🙂 Great review!

  3. Chelsea

Great review! I haven’t heard of this series until recently but I really like the sound of this one. I am definitely checking both of these out. As someone in my late twenties, I like finding books with older characters. 🙂

OOoh I love verbal foreplay! That’s what I like best with novels like this, the tension builds up deliciously and when it unravels…sigh! Romantic bliss.

Like I said the girl is not naive and thankfully it was believable. Thanks Heidi 🙂

Great review. I am reading this soon. It sounds like one of those books you can sit back, relax, and just enjoy without it ripping your heart out. Those are so fun and therapeutic sometimes.

Yes exactly Ellen…a breather between those NA and YA books that gut you 🙂

    • kimbacaffeinate

Yes we get some nice suspenseful tension and danger which I quite enjoyed.

I love the alternating povs, as well. It definitely lowers my anxiety over the characters’ thoughts and actions. This was my first Rachel Gibson book, and won’t be the last.
    Nice review!

Set in Texas and not a western? I’m in! I’d like to check out the other series that Sadie’s in too, it sounds fun. You had me LOL with your comment about her being a virgin, but only in the biblical sense. Best line ever! Great review as always 🙂

I know I should’n be afraid of a 3.5 (cups of coffee)..LOL I was just expecting a lot more, but you said it’s perfect for an afternoon scape, and sometimes the narrator can make a predictable an average story fared better, I’m hopping that’s the case here.

Review is a 4 on goodreads and amazon from me, the plot wasn’t complicated but I gobbled this up as I giggled and sighed so while not original it was above average and worth the read 🙂

*snort* That is perhaps the greatest line I’ve ever read in a review Kim! LOVE IT! I really didn’t need to know anything about this book other than it features a military hero, I’m a complete sucker for those and will read them every time. Good thing the rest of the story sounds really fun if predictable, I actually like predictable in my romances:)

    • kimbacaffeinate

I am glad you liked that line..I know some of my peeps hate the virgin trope but this wasn’t like that, and I am all like how do I say this..and two cups of coffee later..I came up with that snort worthy line! LOL Oh yes I adore military heroes and any man in uniform. They make me weak at the knees!

I think I remember reading one of her books before and really liking it. This sounds like another really sweet fun read. I love a good cowboy romance!

Rachel Gibson’s stories are always a good escape — yes, a bit predictable but that seems to work for me in romances.

    • kimbacaffeinate

Sometimes predictable is fine especially in contemporary romances. I am looking forward to trying more of her books.

  14. Nick

I’ve heard so much about Rachel Gibson’s books. I know Nereyda adores all of her books!
I’m glad that you enjoyed this, Kim. It sounds like a short and sweet read with some great characters in it.
    Great review, Kim!

I cannot remember when was the last time I have read a book set in Texas. It’s a shame really. Anyhow I have heard of this author but haven’t read any of her books. I’m glad you enjoyed this one Kim 🙂
