Sometimes home is the refuge you need—and sometimes it isn’t….Adelaide Davies, who’s been living in Sacramento, returns to Whiskey Creek, the place she once called home. She’s there to take care of her aging grandmother and to help with Gran’s restaurant, Just Like Mom’s. But Adelaide isn’t happy to be back. There are too many people here she’d rather avoid, people who were involved in that terrible June night fifteen years ago. Ever since the graduation party that changed her life, she’s wanted to go to the police and make sure the boys responsible—men now—are punished. But she can’t, not without revealing an even darker secret. So it’s better to pretend….Noah Rackham, popular, attractive, successful, is shocked when Adelaide won’t have anything to do with him. He has no idea that his very presence reminds her of something she’d rather forget. He only knows that he’s finally met a woman he could love.

Sounds interesting right? I love a good small town romance series and hope to read these soon. Let’s find our more, please welcome Brenda Novak to tell us a little more.

Guest Post-Day 5

Welcome to Day 5 of my blog tour! By now you should have found four gold mining implements, once for each of my previous stops, as well as the name of the character that was highlighted in that post. A perfect score wins a Whiskey Creek fan pack* so follow me through the whole 10-stop tour and claim yours! (If you’re starting late, you get instructions at www.brendanovak.com, where you will also find the score card which can be updated each day and saved.) Today I’m introducing you to Noah Rackham. He’s one of the core group of friends who meet every Friday morning at Black Gold Coffee. He grew up with Gail DeMarco, Callie Vanetta and the others in Whiskey Creek. A fun-loving, well-adjusted playboy, he’s had life pretty good. Not only is he a professional cyclist, he owns Crank It Up, the bike shop in town, which he runs himself during the off-season when he’s not racing mountain bikes in Europe. He’s had only one significant tragedy enter his life—on graduation night his fraternal twin was killed in the abandoned gold mine not far away. Adelaide Davis wasn’t one of the popular crowd. She’s been living in Sacramento but has to return to Whiskey Creek to take care of her aging grandmother, who raised her. But she isn’t happy to be back. Ever since the graduation party that changed her life, she’s wanted to go to the police and make sure the boys responsible—men now—are punished. But she can’t. Not without revealing an even darker secret. So it’s better to pretend…. Noah is shocked when Adelaide won’t have anything to do with him. He has no idea that his very presence reminds her of something he’d rather forget. He only knows that he’s finally met a woman he could love. I got the idea for this story from an episode of Dateline. The night this particular episode came on I watched in horror as the reporter stepped me and other viewers through the disappearance of a young woman who worked as a motel clerk. She wasn’t kidnapped and killed by strangers. She was gang-raped and murdered by her friends, at a party no less! Even more shocking was the fact that no one spoke up afterward, even those who were at the party who weren’t directly involved. It wasn’t until years later that one woman finally broke her silence, and the poor victim’s family learned her true fate. I knew a topic like that (what happens to Addy is similar but not the same) would be a challenge to tackle in a romance, but I love to write about heroes and heroines who overcome great difficulty and find happiness in the end. It makes the denouement that much sweeter! If you’d like to see how Addy and Noah come together, and if the bad guys get their just desserts, HOME TO WHISKEY CREEK was just released on Tuesday and can be found wherever books are sold.

  2. Sharon - Obsession with Books

I adore small town romance series so I think I’d quite like this. It’s always nice to read about a h/h overcoming obstacles to find a HEA

The inspiration for this story sounds terribly heart-wrenching.

    Thank-you for sharing! 🙂

  3. Maida

  4. Andrea

Wow, what a powerful inspiration for the story. And a great way to spread awareness.

This book looks so good! I wanted to take part in the tour, but just couldn’t fit it in. Thanks for sharing, Kim!

Thanks for trying, Andrea. Definitely enter my big giveaway on my website, if you get the chance. It won’t take as long as the blog tour. 😉

I have been following the daily blogs. I have no problem picking the character names–I think! I am totally lame when it comes to finding the the mining implements.

  5. Candace

Sounds like a lovely series. I can’t believe that dateline story though, how can all those people stay quiet? I don’t think I would, but I guess it’s different when you’re in the situation.

    • Brenda Novak

I couldn’t believe it, either, Candace. They put her in a back room and took turns, and yet everyone at the party knew what was going on, and they managed to keep it a secret for years. Very sad.

You should enter the contest, too, Kindlemom! It gives you an excerpt, so you’ll be able to see if it’s something you might like (you can find it at http://www.brendanovak.com). Also, I tried to post this (but it hasn’t shown up so hopefully you won’t get it twice), the first book in the series is on sale for only $1.99–WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES–in case you want to start at the beginning.

  7. Brenda Novak

Thanks, Kindlemom! I hope you enjoy it. The first book in the series is on sale in digital for only $1.99, if you want to start there. It’s called WHEN LIGHTNING STRIKES. 🙂

Wow. It is crazy to think this was created off of a horrible real life tale on Dateline (how horrible for that poor woman!). I am glad someone finally spoke of in her behalf.

This sounds amazing and I am marking it on my to read list now! Thanks for the guest post!!

  9. Debbie

Wow Hi Brenda I’ve loved all of your novels and I’m always a sucker to find out a little something more about an author I love. Thanks for the post and I’m entering the contest too 🙂

    • Brenda Novak

Thanks, Debbie! So happy you’ve been enjoying my work–and definitely enter the contest! It’s a fun one!

    • Brenda Novak

Thanks for giving my books a try, Felicia! I hope you like them. If you want to get the prequel novella for free, just enter my monthly contest at my website. Then the first book in the series in on sale (until September) for only $1.99. Very cheap way to get started!

  10. Shar

I loved the story of Addy and Noah. For Addy to learn to trust again. This book is more than romance, such a good read!

    • Brenda Novak

Thanks so much, Shar! I appreciate the positive feedback!
